Some of you may of seen (or even called) recently regarding my rex for sale, thanks to those who called by the way. Basically, i need some advice. Do i get her rebuilt and then sell her (which would kill me to think of someone else enjoying the fruits of my labour), or do i sell her as she is with blown water seals? for those interested in the specs, they can be seen in the for sale section under the thread "the dream is over". well the dream is well and truly over and this could\'nt of happened at a worse time whilst i was trying to sell her. So, honestly, would i be asking too much to get £4000 for her as she is or have i got no chance. this is new territory for me and i can honestly say i\'m stuck on what to do. how much can i expect to pay for a rebuild at wgt (i\'d use them because their closest to me and people want to see a reputable company when it comes to this sort of thing when it comes to selling). any advice from those vastly more knowledgable than myself would be hugely appreciated. thanks.

I\'m booked in for a rebuild at WGT. As mine has already been rebuilt so there shouldn\'t be as much work to do. Estimate 2 - 2.5k for me, thats with the seal going but nothing noticably wrong.

Jit

well as you know dude, im very interested in the car as is. although 4k is pricey for me.

silverdevill

what do you mean by nothing noticeably wrong? mine was rebuilt around 10,000 kms ago, will this make a difference? sorry for all the questions.:o

Jit

the recent rebuild might or might not make a difference. it depends on what happened. if the engine was overheated and the seals failed that way, you\'ll really need new springs on the engine and 2 new housings if they are warped... you may have warped tips as well? until the lump is pulled and stripped, no one will know...if a plate has cracked a bit off, then a new plate with matched porting will be needed. Then you have to bear in mind that the car will need to be mapped again if any ports are different...

by the way, pip still thinks that this is ecu related. personally i have my doubts but he da man!

Jit

lol ... i dont kow how he can think that tbh! i mean white smoke from the exhaust?? hows that getting there??!

Pip put the sniffer in the AST and it picked up exhaust gas, which means that the seal is going and will eventually go completly.

White smoke comming from the exhaust is also a simptom of the seal going, basically water is mixing with the fuel, this will also dampen the spark plugs making it increasingly more difficult to start.

sniffer in the ast? sorry you\'ve lost me there. there was a hell of a lot of white smoke from the exhaust and now she won\'t start at all!

If you want to think positive then the more recent the rebuild the few things that have to be fixed, if you want to be realistic then it all depends on what really went wrong with it and what they find when they take it apart, at that point you are committed to fixing the lot.

IMO, sell it now, be honest and let someone else take on the responsibility for the rebuild. For example, if you could sell for £4k, but decided to rebuild it, how much more could you realistically put on on top of the cost of the re-build? The even wiser choice is more simply not to sell it, I\'ve read your list of mods, think how much has been spent on this already, if you sell it you will loose all of thats been spent to make a great car in return for a crappy mundane car that will depress you everytime you walk up to it thinking about what fun you had when you had your RX7.

The CO2 sniffer that they use for measuring the emissions for the MOT. Basically if you have exhaust gasses in the AST then it is because it has been bubbling into the collant system through the water seal that is going.

The white smoke is becuase water is mixing with the fuel, so its effectivly steam your seeing out the exhaust. It wont start becuase your spark plugs are wet. If you need to start it you will have to have a go drying them out. Once you get it going, your next destination should be a garage, either WGT or whoever buys it!
