hi again,

you\'ll notice a ton of new posts by me as i try and get familiar with the Rex :) i\'m trying the search function and read up loads on info but i cant find anything on this. The RX has had a new steering rack before i bought it, the steering is heavy but not like its not power assisted (my S13 is so light its ridiculous so i know its going to be different) but pulling out of T lunctions if i let go of the steering wheel it hardly resets itself, you have to help it back into position. Is that normal or is there something else about the rack that wasnt put in right maybe ? i was thinking if the back end did come out you would have to be a demon with your hands to straighten it out ....

thanks again

Sholdn\'t be that stuff!!! have you checked the power steering fluid?? if it\'s had a new rack just befor you bought it, quite possible there was an air lock in the system & with working the steering back & forth while driving, the air might have released and as a result your level is too low for it to work properly!! or the other possibility is a leaky hose on the steering system, could be just a jubilee clip needing tightening!!!

all good advice, i\'ll have a poke about later to check if it ever stops raining, think it was ok but i\'ll double check

Try the easy fix first bleed the power steering, just jack up the front of the car so wheels are off the ground, take the top off the steering fluid bottle, and turn the steering wheel left to right a few times, be a bit carefull as it may overflow when doing this, check the fluid level top up if you have to, this will get out any air locks.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find it myself...
But i can always do with some help now due to, my advancing years!

sounds like a plan, cheers for that

It should certainly re-centre after a turn - the low-profile tryes enhance the desire of the car to steer in a streight line!

First thing i\'d be checking is caster, camber and toe settings. Do you have anyone near you can do full four wheel alignment. If its out then it will make the steering do all sorts of weird things.

Steering self centring is a product of castor, not power steering. If the car isn\'t doing any self centring then, as Kev suggests above, the car suspension could be a bit out of kilter. is it lowered? After market kit on it?  Any of those will more then likley screw the castor if the car has not been reset up afterwards.

hmm, i was leaning towards the steering as it has had a new rack and pump a while ago and maybe the ppl that did it missed something, if there is nothing obvious then i\'ll get it in for alignment then, ta
