:3Confused Hi

I have just bought an 1985 rx7, it has the 12a engine in at the moment, but soon re-worx is going to be fitting me a t2 engine with a big turbo for around 300hp, its costing around £4500 is this a good price.

Also has any one got the actual power figures for the 12a, I have saw loads of different ones.

cheers

Without the specs for the engine, knowing if it\'s rebuilt, ported etc, installed and, say, comes with improved brakes, it\'s impossible to say if you\'re being ripped off or if you\'re getting a bargain.

Power for the 1st gen 12A is usually quoted between 105 and 115PS, IIRC.

thanks alot for the advice.

brakes, intercooler and suspension is not included in with the price.

I think it is a good second hand t2 engine with abrand new manifold and turbo, also a motec ecu and wiring.

thanks mark

What kind of manifold and turbo are we talking about here?

Not to mention that "good used T2 engines" fall into the category of rocking horse excrement... Mind you, the Motec isn\'t exactly cheap, either. But without knowing if the engine is standard, ported, what type of port, how many miles, compression values and all that, it\'s not that useful.

I assume that it at least includes installation of the drive-in, drive-out type? Oh, and how much are we talking for the intercooler here? It\'s pointless to have a T2 engine and no intercooler or chargecooler.

Oh, and I\'ve owned an Elford Turbo for a while. That was scary enough to drive on the standard-ish brakes. If you\'re talking 300bhp, even at the fly, on standard FB brakes, someone will have to pick you out of a tree very soon.

Thanks again for the advice,

Not sure what turbo the guy just said it is alot bigger one costing around £800 for the turbo and £500 for the manifold the motec ecu and wiring is £1000. The t2 engine is also £1000 second hand but a decent one.

He is charging £700 for fitting, which I thought was good. Iam personally sick of doing things myself.

Iam going to change the brakes myself but it is hard to find places for brakes, suspension alloys because it is an old car. I only bough it 1 week ago so new to the rotory scene.

welcome aboard, as previous posts have said i would want some better brakes to hold those horses in, either look at upgrading to T11 brake set up or upgrade discs and pads at the least

Tokico HP\'s are good just put a set on mine

Im currently trying to fit a 13b EGI (N/A) into my 1st gen. The job is quite big but the biggest question too is the strength of the gearbox and diff too. These cars where only built for lowish power. I would have thought you would at least need a T2 gearbox and modded prop shaft. The diff should be strong enough without to many mad launches. I know somebody is running a 1st gen diff in a 20b drag car :D

I\'ve used speedways alot for brakes, replaced the whole back end with new pads, discs and calipers. Made a huge difference.

As for wheels, don\'t go too crazy. People have had serious issues with the steering when on bigger wheels. If its a series 3 then the studs are most likely 114.3 x 4 with an offset of 40 (I think). The series 1 or 2 are 110 x 4 ! Rx7club have alot more info for alloys, lots more images too :D

Now that\'s not very useful, sorry - a lot bigger than what? The problem here is that bigger isn\'t always better either, unless you have all components built up in such a way that they\'ll work together well.

Hmm. I think the price for the Motec sounds OK-ish if that includes fitting and mapping. Which manifold(s) are we talking about? Inlet? Exhaust? Both?

Quote from: m_reedThe t2 engine is also £1000 second hand but a decent one.

Again, how is he going to prove it\'s decent? Do you have compression values for it? Service history? Rebuild paperwork? Any warranty that goes further than the end of the drive?

The problem here is that you\'ve got an unknown engine, no idea if it\'s ported or not (and some of the engine builders on this board will confirm that this the most important part if you start tuning a rotary) and you\'re sticking a big turbo on it.

Sounds like a very expensive recipe for disaster to me, sorry.

Quote from: m_reedHe is charging £700 for fitting, which I thought was good. Iam personally sick of doing things myself.

Does that include everything? Like, potentially fitting different engine mounts and all that?

Also, which gearbox are you running? I\'m not sure if the FB gearbox will take that much power without going into meltdown.

First gen (FB) tuning parts aren\'t exactly easy to come by anymore, guess you may have better luck finding parts in the States or Japan.

Should be an interesting conversion, there is a lot more work than meets the eye.........Jeff has estimated conservatively on this one it seems.:Typing

All he needs for the proper look are some Watanabe RS-8s :)

That\'s kind of my worry - I can see this turning out a lot more expensive if done properly, or a half-baked grenade if done on a budget.

For the sake of the OP I\'m hoping that he\'s got the stamina (and the depth of pocket) to see this through.

to true guys i wouldnt want to put 300 BHP through a FB not with out some serious cash going into the rest of the set up

I looking at the EGI setup because I use mine everyday and didn\'t want to go silly. It gets used in all weather.

What makes you want to go for a setup like this ?? What have you owned beforehand ?? A FB with 100bhp at the wheels is loads of fun, why do you want a turbo 2 setup ??

Have to say i agree with that, loads of stuff to think about even though th 13b bolts straight up to a 1st gen box ! I\'ve been working on mine for 3 months before even putting the engine in. Its without the need of uprated fuel pump and wiring up EFI too !

Yes Era im a running a bit slow (ok alot)
