Having a few thoughts on my turbo and have been looking at whats about. What is the best option out of the following turbos, mainly for track usage so ideally it needs to be on boost at around 4K, but I still want huge power for high speed runs and destroying Ferraris and lambos (on airfield days)!! Oh and it needs to fit under the bonnet!

Greddy T88H 38GK - Ex housing 22.0 cm2
HKS T04Z - A/R 1.00
T51R-SPL

Plus other suggestions?

Thanks for your help :Thumbs-up
Cheers

or

Garret GT60
Turbonetics T72

I\'m not sure at what rpm these will be on full boost though?

Ask Jay what he thinks of the T88 (might not be a GK, cant remember) in the Whifbitz car. Comes in a very complete kit, and is cheaper than the others too.

GT60 would be fun but I expect it\'s only on boost at 8K!

Whif runs a T88 GK eh.. Sounds good I\'ll drop Jay a line.

Whats the GT42r like? How would it compare to the T88 GK for power delivery and are they both rebuildable without spending huge sums?
Cheers

Whifbitz have normal T88. Gk is quite abit larger and has billet wheel etc.
I think something like a T78 would be more suitable for you, and just run some meaingful boost through it.

Ben - I\'m runnign a chaeap and cheerful Turbonetics T70 with 1.15 hotside.  It\'s  probably a little bit for my target of 400rwhp but it\'s making 1bar from 5k.  With a decent manifold (rather than the ebay PoS I\'ve got) that\'d improve and a 1 or 1.05 housing would obviously bring spool times down further.

Not sure what power it\'s making now but it\'s significantly more than before the engine rebuild.  It\'s a turbo that really wants more boost thatn I\'m currently shoving through it.  The big plus is it\'s relatively cheap!

Well the HKS TA45 is good at 1 bar from 4K but you know that craving for more power!!

Just fancied a monster turbo that can still spool around 4K but output lots of power. I\'m looking at a T88 34D minimum really the GK series looks amazing but I need to find a manifold and downpipe ideally. Ross you got any in that big workshop of yours? Oh and what did you want for those lights fella! ;)

the T78 would be a good track option.

What about the turbo that was on the ex dragon drag car, that looked just alittle bit big :spank :D

GT42R is good for 600+ fwhp and spools relatively early for a monster turbo.Mine was making 0.2 bar at 3.5k rpm, 0.4 bar at 4k rpm and 1.0 bar at 5k rpm.

At 1.2 bar it made 540 fwhp(extend port), turbo is just starting to come into its own at this pressure too:evillaugh

It just so happens that i am selling it too, just the turbo and a 48mm Turbosmart pro wastegate.:D :D

It is a very good turbo.

ok no knowledge on big turbos but from watchin youtube (lol)

Stilway use a T51R SPL and it boosts 18psi.  this makes it have 650hp apparently and 9 seconds quater miles.  it starts boosting at 4.5k - 5k - id love that kind of power,  it did sound like it was a bridgy.

theres another on youtube its a pt76-gts turbo and that makes about 650hp too. if you search "bad rx"

Ben, thats like the holy grail of turbos and something we are all looking for :god

if you find it let us know :D
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

GT42R sounds good! How would it compare to a T04Z? Where would I get the mainfold etc.. from?

I hear what your saying about the bigger turbos and lag but some of the quicker Jap cars run big turbos, so as long as the revs are kept up it\'ll pull nicely!

Has anyone got a chart comparing the different turbos on an FD? Or experince with them? I\'m eager top know more!
