Hi,

My tyres are dead, so having a second set of wheels I\'ve decided that before I change my tyres its time to try and sort out my rims, at the moment I have a set of mazdaspeed ms01\'s and the gold centres are flaking so I intend on re-painting them.

I have a few questions thought;

1. How do I get split rims apart,
2. How would I re-seal them
3. Is this a good idea
4. What primer and Paint is best and where from.

Think thats it for now.

Cheers

1. How do I get split rims apart,

Undo all the bolts

2. How would I re-seal them

They just go back together and do up all the bolts, i didn\'t seal mine

3. Is this a good idea

Mine took a week, make sure you sand them down well

4. What primer and Paint is best and where from.

I used cellulose primer and standard spray paint - but remember to lacquer them - a good few coats.

Cool, I\'ve got 1 appart now, I thought they were 3 piece rims but threre not so it makles life a lot easier, I\'ve just polished one of the outers so its nice and shiney now its time to try and get the paint off the inner, this could be fun.

You must use some sort of sealant surely IMHO (would I be happy with this at 150mph).

When I was looking at doing this I was recomended to use a good quality mastic sealant and to tighten all the bolts to the same setting with a torgue wrench.

The wheels should be checked for running true and that is best done when you put on the new tyres.

You would need to use a sealant id they were 3 piece rims, the mazdaspeed ones are 2 piece. They consist of the central spokes and the rim. The rim the tyre sits on is a single piece so with a tyre correcly fitted it will seal, with a three piece rim the rim is made of 2 pieces so you need to seal it or it could potentially be the weak point with a tyre fitted.

I did a set on my old 205,they were Dimma 3 piece splits. I agree with keith use a decent sealant and torque all the bolts to the correct amount. Were you find out the torque setting is another question, maybe a pro company that does refurbing would tell you. Remember when tightening,don\'t go round the wheel do opposites, that ensures the wheel is torqued equally all the way round.

did anybody ever find the torque setting?
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

Will you be re-using the orginal nuts n bolts or buying new? If new then they should have a max torque setting figure.Wind it up to that and should be safe.
