Ok, Even though i\'m on my Holladay at the moment :) being a true beliver i have just spent the last hour looking how i can relocate my Battery whilst my engines out. (the other halfs shopping ;))

I have read lots of write ups on here sugesting Battery Types and cable types, but is the Job as easy as disconect the Neg and Poss, fit a new battery in the storage bins with some means of fixing, then conect two new cables from the battery to the neg and poss you disconected on the car?

I have read on here i will need 50a cable and a 60a fues or RCD is this correct? Also for those using one, Are the small bike style batterys ok? i just get the impresion they don\'t hold alot of charge and will go flat quite easy?

Cheers
Chris

I got a 3m length of battery cable, a red top 20 battery, a standard negative cable as bought halfords (About 40cm worth). Sat the battery in the boot and ran the positive cable from the original connection, down through the firewall (Grommit in the passenger footwell) and the length of the car and to the battery. All you need to do then is connect  the negative terminal to some good bodywork using the negative lead. I didn\'t use any fuses at the battery, and although some people say you should, i figured that if it\'s good enough for the original mini then it\'s good enough for me! :)

Right i was going to get a fuse to go in line on the Positive Cable, i see that you dont have one, how many others are their that dont ???

also what would happen if i dont have one ?? just curious !!

Things you need:

5m of 170amp wire (it\'s outer casing is about 10 mm thick)
0.5m of 170amp earth cable
140amp curcuit breaker as main fuse is 120amp!!!(if the outer casin wares through you will end up welding the cable to the car which could result in: exploding the battery, setting the car on fire or possibly both!!!) All of which are not good!! for the sake of £15 I\'d put a cucuit breaker in!!!
6 battery cable eyelets
shrink rap
solder
Battery box

& about 3 hours to do the job!!

i used one of these http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=ETA921 it was about £50 but was worth every penny (i can turn the Power off if not using the car and if i do trip it for any reason it resets like and RCD in your house)
