Hello there everyone! firstly im new http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?p=399845#post399845

So now the my wee introduction is done lets get stuck in!!

My question is this, my FD has a cat back 3" exhaust on it and I read in a couple of places that taking the cat out without any fuel system upgrades can be a bit iffy. is this really the case even if the car is still running stock boost levels?? If not ill be ripping the cat out asap!!

Also shes currently fitted with twin HKS mushrooms and im thinking that since thats also a breathing modification maybe I could have problems in the near future??

Finally its running with the non-sequential mod done to it but I think its a bit iffy so my plan this weekend is to stick it all back to std plumbing wise and get the twins working as per factory setup again. Is there any diagrams etc of what im going to have to do to put it all back together?

I realise theres probably hundreds of posts like this already answered but I always like to try and get a fresh set of answers hence ive posted this before really searching through the forum!

Thanks in advance!

Just my understanding (it may be wrong, but i think im right or there abouts :D)

My understanding is that the Rx7 Is a very sensative fellow to knock \'detonation\' (resulting in a dead engine due to blown apex seals) Easly caused by leaning out the fuel mixture,if your running a flee flow exhaust and a free flowing intake you are going to be putting a higher density of air in to the champer per cycle (thus leaning out the mixture) The rx7 to my knowledge uses fuel maps to determin how much fuel to pump into the chamber rather than a MAF/MAP sensor, i know on a lot of other cars you can get away with simple breather mods without having to change and remap. I do know of some people running filters on the standard ecu, and a decat, but he has gone back to the cat :wiggle

personaly i would look up the cost of a rebuild against a few extra ponys for the add risk. Yes i know the noise gives wood. (not a scare monger but its the general consesnus and id have to agree, I am tempted myself to put a filter on my car but i dont know what the state of the aftermarket ecu i am running)

I cant realy comment on the non seq - but if you do a search on boost issues  you will find a lot of posts refering to diagrams of the vac hoses (quite an awfull lot! dont even know if you would still have the rats nest if you are running non seq) i did some reserch into doing it at somepoint i think there is some way of making it a perminant change! so it may be one of those?

If a tuner or someone with some solid knowledge would confirm or correct, my explination if is wrong it would be appreciated :D
I woof in your general direction.

I agree with whats said.
The RX should not be tuned, cat back and maybe induction kit (the stock air box with a K&N filter is meant to be best without going and spending lots of ££££) at most.
With the mods you have I would strongly advise you get an Apexi fitted and mapped asap, that way you will get improved performance safely. When the car gets mapped you will find out if other things should be looked at to keep the car running sweet for the long term.

Thanks people! A power FC is the first thing on my list and will be getting bought in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime ill be taking it easy and I will stick the wide band on her to see what the AFR is like.

what figures should I be looking for with regard to AFR on a rex??

Pics of your new car ?

PFC is THE thing to buy before making any mods to the car.  I think afr\'s around 12.5 but I can\'t confirm that.  Blitzboy on the forum can help you
