Ok, Im new I\'ve been registered for a while but Im actually thinking of saving some money for a RX now and just wanted a little bit of help and direction.

I only passed my test in Feb this year at 19. Im waiting till next February/March time before I go for it cuz then I\'ll be 20 with a year NCB. But so far even trying to get a quote isn\'t happening I tried to do a search using confused.com but they didn\'t even recognize the engine size when I put it in. I\'ve tried a couple of other places but dont seem to be getting anywhere.

So does any here have any idea what sort of insurance I\'d be looking at??

It\'d be greatly appreciated as I REALYL REALLY want a Rex. I know about the rest of the running costs and they won\'t be a problem, the insurance is the only thing Im not totally convinced about.

It\'ll be huge! Over a thousand, easy. Probably over £2k. It\'s just not worth it. Get some experience first. Get at least 4 yrs NCB would be my advice.

I got a quote with 2yr NCB for just under 1500. My original plan was to buy a GTI6 and run that in for a year till I have the 2yr NCB.

I dont mind paying between 2-2.5k but would like it it under 2k even if its just a little. I might just wait till nearer the time then check it out over the phone to some specialists, what ya reckon?

Premium was quite a bit over £3k for fully comp, second car, 3000 miles per year with 2 NCB.  Check they have quoted you for the right car/engine.

Car has every mod insured and when done was running 360bhp.  Although the increase in power after my rebuild didn’t affect my premium.

Costs - Be prepared for a rebuild!  Even it you buy a car from another member who cared for it (which I did), and have it checked out by a rotary specialist (which I did) there is always a chance of something going wrong - which it bloody well did. :p

Fuel - I only go out in it on a nice day and I\'m usually out for a good blast through open country roads.  Works out £40 a day easily.

Servicing - Regular oil, filter & plug changes.  Not to mention brake discs, pads, clutch etc and anything else you\'d care to replace on a car that went into production 15 years ago.  When you add it all up its not cheap.

Do your research and if you can afford it - do it.  I have no regrets.  If you can\'t afford it or you know its going to be very tight.  Don\'t do it!  Wait until you have a bit more cash and then do it.  Otherwise you’ll be just another person complaining about how expensive and unreliable these fantastic cars are.

This point is soooo true. So many people buy these cars when they can just about afford it, and then when it goes wrong they have to dump the car for next to nothing becuase they cannot afford the proper repairs. There are a lot of lemons out there!

i was in the same boat as you nearly but because of the cost of running the damn thing i held it off for a year until i was 21 kept an eye out for a nice uk spec at 21 with 1 ynb £1300 with adrian flux. I did buy it 6 months before i insured it tho and sorted every thing that needed sorting underseal, brakes, ratsnest ect kept me busy.:Thumbsup!
