Well that just about puts the cherry on top my season with the car

Every event I go to is either cancelled or it throws it down and I waste hundreds of pounds of petrol.

Right now, I am tempted to burn the car and be done with it

but it is very rare that we cancel an event!.

We have been messed about concerning Billing and the full truth about MRC\'s invite has only finally come to light today.

Haven\'t traded the RX-7 for a Cosmo then?

Nowhere to go and no-one to buy the car, not a lot of point is there?

It\'s no joke when you live in the South West, every event means a commitment of at least 75 to 150 worth of fuel, and I just can\'t keep doing this when it always rains at Santa Pod.

Fed up with the whole car business, missed out on the V12 Mercedes, no local shows, just too many chavs and corsa\'s and nova\'s around here these days.

I don\'t know about you, but this whole business with clubs plainly disagreeing about who goes to what and when is symptomatic of how the whole scene has changed, and not for the better if you ask me.

Too many people trying to make money out of the Jap car scene, the shows were so much better 8 years ago, hardly any traders, and no money flying around.

What about the people who live in Scotland? Costs them a lot more and some people even come from abroad.

As for the weather at Santa Pod - is that a serious compliant?

It is a serious complaint, there is nothing to do at Santa Pod when it rains, and believe me I have sat in the car at Santa Pod with it raining too many times.

I agree some people spend more, but I am fed up with wasting hundreds of pounds on fuel.

So if it is a serious compliant what do you expect the club to do about it? We can\'t do anything about the weather.

Yes you have every right to comment but some things are out of our control.

I think we need to consider that the weather is unpredictable, and venues like Billing were perfect for coping with that fact, you could find something to do if it was raining, or retire to a dry tent.

With spiraling costs for fuel and accommodation, meeting up at venues like Santa Pod and Shakespeare raceway are a very big gamble for anyone who doesn\'t live within a 100 mile radius. These places are desolate at the best of times, and when it\'s raining, there is absolutely nothing to do.

I booked leave, and hotels for Billing, and whilst thankfully the hotel has been cancelled without cost, I doubt that I will be able to reclaim my leave, my employer isn\'t very flexible in that respect.

I am angry in general about this being cancelled, not angry with Lisa or Clive, believe me I should know how hard they have worked and do work on all our behalves.

Unfortunately, flippant comments will only pour fuel on the flames :flamed

Is that aimed at me?

I don\'t believe I have said anything disrespectful and it was a serious challenge at a comment that I felt was inaccurate. If you really believe it always raining at Santa Pod then fair enough but I don’t agree and I don’t understand how that is the clubs fault.

Dear Richard, and all (I\'ve known you long enough to address you Dear :cool )

It has pained me tonight to see you so despondent with everything and can tell you that Lisa and myself have gone from elated that we were going back to Billing to being really really miffed that we have seemingly become the victim of some sort of sadistic hoax, and on top of that we are told by one of the clubs that they will "try" and accommodate MRC next year !

I totally aggree with you that the only reason that JAE Billing got dumped was because sombody saw MONEY in it!

My personal belief is that moving JAE to Peterborough was akin to trying to move Glastonbury to the Shetlands but they did it and I feel they tore the soul out of JAE by moving it.

Many many clubs however have gone across to the inexplicably soulless Peterborough that not only has a fence around it like colditz but also gets exit gates locked at night and yet they have had a whale of a time with around I guesstimate 2,000 people with cars.

BUT MRC people hate it, because where as at Billing we attended with up to 130 cars the first year at Peterbough we had 25 "combined" across the whole weekend.

At the next AGM I voiced my opinian that I and Lisa had NO interest in going to JAE at  Peterbough for 2006 and did not feel that the club wanted it either but it was stated and aggreed by the members present that a "Rotary" presence should be at JAE and so off we went again with less that 20 turning up this time.

We have found that again and again It is all very well standing on the sidelines NOT supporting your clubs meetings by not attending but give this a little thought,

For Lisa and myself JAE is a three day affair because to ensure we are on the stand on time for MRC\'s members at events we travel to them the day before and whilst we have absolutely NO problem with doing this for the club it\'s damn soul destroying for both of us when nobody bothers to turn up!.

If lots of people want to go to JAE this year we have no problem organising a club stand but this is why the poll above however if we can\'t make a good Rotary showing we shall not attend.

I will leave you all with this thought, how about this,

Along with Richard I know Eddy was going to travel from Southern Ireland and it became evident that people still want to go to Billing so how about   Somebody out there contacting Billing and working around our events calender to hold a private MRC party of our own ?

Personally with Rotorstock (which seems to have got forgotten on this thread) we have not got the time to sort this one out but as I have said many times "it\'s your club " and anyone can organise anything for their club that they want.

Please vote carefully on this  poll  http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39698 and if you don\'t want to go to JAE or you want to go , say so because I feel that unless we take at least 50 cars both days we will again be a laughing stock amongst the big clubs that attend with lots of cars, Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

BTW when negotiating to take R4 to Santa pod they wanted the same type of date that Rotorstock BUT I told them that they were going to accomadate R4 in the Summer when there was less chance of rain as we were fed up with wet Rotorstock meetings !
All the best Clive

Prof

Firstly a big thankyou to Lisa and Clive for all the hard work they do...

It must be soul destroying when people don\'t show up for things, and I can understand your reticence to go to JAE given the attendance last year.

For my part, I had already booked to go to JAE with another club, on the understanding that MRC were not going to be attending.  For that reason I have not voted.

Having spoken with Steve Burns recently at one of our local meets, I got to learn quite a bit about the history behind JAE, as he was one of the original organisers.  The decision to move to Peterborough was partly due to the admin workload on one person, and no one coming forward to take that on, and partly Billing wanting to make more money out of the event and dictating terms to the organisers.  Agreed you are kind of \'locked in\' at Peterborough, but there was plenty going on and in some ways that arrangement provides a sense of security.

People seem more than willing to be critical of arranged meets, weather and what not, but how about more regional events.  I\'ve not been in this club or any other club for all that long a time, but already we have attended many of the larger meets, and have started a couple of our own as well.  As Clive sais, arrange some meets yourselves and see what happens - the worst that could happen is you go for a nice drive and have a good pub meal on your own - or it could turn out to be a really good club event.

:cheers
