Annoying problem!

Ok this has been bugging me for ages. My Glovebox has the annoying habit of falling open and also rattles when I manage to get it closed.

Does anyone know how it can be adjusted/ beaten into submission?

I\'ve seen this on a few rex\'s. Without wanting to be really simple, couldn\'t you get another one with decent catch on it? oscrx is breaking his rex at the mo.

I had this exact problem when I brought my car last year.  The latch mechanism had come unscrewed inside the box.  I looked on the internet and all i read was break it open because the mechanism is screwed in place and the two skins bonded together.  

I had a think and I decided to carry out some key hole surgery on mine.

1.) First remove the glove box from the car two screws fix it at the bottom.

2.)Then remove the handle/ lock mechanism.

3.)Carefully peel off the vinyl/ leather cover from the front.

4.) Drill two holes and then tighten/ Replace the screw that have dropped out.


****This where you can help me Gareth because I\'m only a guest, and I can\'t post pictures.  I took a photo the box with holes drilled and dimensioned it with a marker where to drill.  Could you post your email address so I can send the photo and then could you add it to this post for everyone else? ****

5.) Fill the holes with Silicone mastic and let set.

6.) Apply Silicone mastic to the box front surface and refit the vinyl/ leather front.  (Tape in place until set if necessary)

7.) Refit to the car.

8.) Hey presto like new!
