I\'ve had the cat removed off my car which now makes the air pump redundant. I was thinking of having it removed (just for the hell of it). But I have a standard air intake and the air pump pulls from it, would it be possible to pump air into the air filter?

Would it work? Would it be worth it?

Feel free to shoot this down, just had the inspiration this morning.

won\'t make any change to the system, just dump it  :yes

well when i decatted my car i took the air pump relay out and after a bit it started ideling up n down, almost hunting if you like, i took it up to pip who pointed out my air pump wasnt turning, i said i pulled the relay as iv took the cat of to which he replied it dont just feed the cat it feeds the whole system, on plugging the relay back in and a good thrash up the road to try n clear the check valves it ran fine... the end

I think you\'ve missed what I\'m getting at, I\'m thinking of changing the piping. So that instead of pulling air from the filter and pumping it into the cat, it would pull air from somewhere else and pump it into the air filter creating presure and force air into the engine.

The air pump puts the air into the system in 2 places, mid pipe being one and the other somewhere before the downpipe (unless the J-Spec is different?)

I have left mine in, I dont notice anything idle wise when it is unplugged (It makes quite a difference to some cars though) but I have left it in as more of an emmisions purpous as it helps me pass the test easier.

It will not pull anything even near the volume of air the turbos will do so probably best left as is :)

If you did want to remove then you will gain more (not much) that way as it\'s a belt driven device.
