I\'ve had my FD for a good while now and I recently realised something.

When topping up your oil be sure to wait a good while before checking the dipstick for levels.

I have been topping up a little on a regular basis but I did check a while back and it was quite low.

Anyhoo I topped up as usual and pulled out the dipstick to check and it was showing oil up near the full mark.... out of curiosity I checked again a couple of days later and it was barely higher than before I topped it up.

I did a bit more topping up and whaen I checked the oil was again close to the top of the dipstick... after waiting 10 minutes I checked again and it was still very low.

My advice is to top up and leave it a good 5-10 minutes for levels as it seems to me that the dipstick area gets filled first and it takes a while to settle.

I hope for my sake I have realised in time without causing damage as the thing that made me double check my levels was the oil light flicking on ...

i always wait a few mins before dipping anyways

if you think about it - you put the oil into the top of the engine - and it has to get into the sump

not sure if the FD is the same as the FC - but from Min > Max its 1 Litre of oil

Hope this helps

I doubt you\'ll do any serious damage. If you have a bit too much in, it\'ll blow it out through the breather system. You should be fine.

My worry was having so little oil in there that the oil light was flicking on. :(

Its a really crap design - especially considering how much oil they use :Hammer

You should check your oil when its warm.  Take the car for a spin then when you come back leave it around 10 mins after turning the engine off then check your levels.
