Hi,

Is there a standard way for testing certain sensors in the engine bay?

Im reading ------- on my apexi commander for the air temp sensors.  Im trying to diagnose why a car might be in limp mode and wondered if this could have anything to do with it?

Can I use a multi tester to test the sensor?

Can this be replaced with a generic sensor if its faulty? Would I need the factory one?

Regards,

James

im sure you can check with a mulitmeter - aslong as you can check for ohms

most sensors will put our certain ohms at certain temp/speeds

the FSM should tell you what to check and how

Hope this helps

James - given that you are in Godalming why not pop down to Milford and ask the guys at whites - they are normally very helpfull :)

Providing you fit a generic sensor that reads in the correct ranges and has the correct output type then I dont see why you cant replace the OEM part with a substitute :yes

Hi James

I replaced my air intake temperature sensor this weekend.  The Service manual says the sensor should have a resistance of 2.2 - 2.7k ohms at 20 degrees and 0.29 - 0.35k ohms at 85 degrees.  It\'s a PITA to get to though because it screwed in to the bottom of the upper intake manifold.  I brought the new part (Part no. MN3A118845 £22.99 exc VAT) from the dealer. I figured I would have to take it out to test it, so I might as well replace it.

The service manual says that with the stock ECU you should get 5v on the green cable and continuity to earth on the brown/ black cable in the sensor plug.  Not sure if it\'s applicable though if you are running a Apexi PFC.

Hope this helps
