I have changed the spark plugs on my fc and have ordered the kingsborne spark leads.

There are two other leads which run to the distributor cap from the \'coil packs\'

Are these called coil packs?

just trying to understand how this setup works?

they are just ignition coils, the term coil pack is usually reserved for a coil + igniter package made to be fired by an ECU, usually in a one coil per plug arrangement or wasted spark (2 plugs per coil pack)  The leads going from the coils to the dizzy are simply called coil leads or the whole lot is generally referred to as a set of HT leads (HT for High tension otherwise known as High Voltage)

As for how it works,  each coil is a basically a transformer it has a 12v coil and a high voltage coil with many more windings than the primary 12v coil, the distributor fires the coil via an igniter or a set of points. this basically charges of discharges (I forget which but I think it can vary) the primary winding in the coil and the rapid change in magnetic flux (magnetic field) causes a very high voltage to be generated in the secondary circuit.

This high voltage then travels down the coil lead to the distributor cap to the centre of the  spinning rotor arm which takes the high voltage and depending in what position it is in within the cap distributes the high voltage to one of the plugs via the HT spark plug lead.

Once at the plug the voltage jumps the spark plug gap by ionising the charge and making it conduct the electrical charge. Therefore generating a spark inside the engine (hopefully igniting the charge) and then earth\'s back through the engine block.

Thanks for that information.

As I have purchased performance spark leads, is it wise to get performance coil leads aswell?

If these are available?
