I had a go at this and i could\'nt master the turning it down whilst moving? It was great at low speed/stopped but a bit too much for me when doing some spirited driving. so i ended up fitting a NA None PS rack (just becouse i like the feel)

antnicuk

i\'m suprised at that as mine is quite firm all the time and was on my FD,  Jay took mine out the other day and thought it felt nice compared to his Non pas rack. Maybe because i have a fairly small steering wheel.............
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

I was thinking about this before, If it makes any diffrence i used a vauxhaull Corsa Pump becouse it had a Bottle on the top and fit well in the Washer Bottle Hole.

I also had a Momo Race steering wheel if that makes any diffrence??

I know on my Fd i am going to keep the stock PS becouse after i did the Mod on my T2 i could not feel any diffrence at all in power or it did\'nt rev any better etc and as i say the steering was a bit vauge whilst Driving hard.

TBH i did it for a reason (IC pipes) but if i was to do it all again i\'d rather get an FD PS casting and lower the assembly rather than getting rid.

But thats just my Opinion, the saxo pump may be a bit less "OTT" but i used a vauhaull one becouse we had one knocking about.

Any more updates on this???

unfortunately my time over the last week or two has been taken up with breaking the EGI, this is however almost a bare shell of its former self so now i turn my attention to the TII again and get this job finished. I have connected up the two P/S lines and positioned the pump where it needs to be. All left to do is make a bracket, which i have the parts waiting, to stop it moving around and wire it in again another simple job, only a pos and neg to sort, will wire it to ignition so pump starts when ignition is switched on.

Whether it\'ll work or not is another question all together lol
Cheers for the interest, will keep updating as i go

Cool :)

I\'m watching a couple of pumps on ebay at present... looks like a good project and I think i have a good idea where to mount it where it will be really out of the way :P

hawker182

Yeah mine sat very well where the stock batt sits, as mine is in the pass rear seat bin, this also allowed me to reuse the stock P/S Lines, they also fitted perfectly. Let us know how you get on

monkey-fd3s

Well i was going to bin the stock lines and use some nice new braided ones.

I\'ve not studied the FD PS rack yet... but in your pics above you were talking about blocking off one of the lines?  Did you need to do that in the end?

From looking at the Saxo pump it has two lines and the res.

Will see how i go on... :)

hawker182

Yeah there is two high pressure lines going into the steering rack, on the stock pump there are two High Pressure outlets, on the saxo pump there is just one, the larger of the two. This is why i\'m blocking of the smaller, dont think it does anything to important and shouldnt cause any concern. It could be blocked off at the actual base of the rack, this i may even do yet. The other line on the saxo pump is the low pressure inlet and yeah then it has the res.

monkey-fd3s

Perhaps it\'s speed sensitive steering or something like that... I\'ll consult the manual and probably come out non the wiser :P

So i assume the second connection on the Saxo pump is a return?

I guess you\'ve retained the stock RX7 S shaped "Power Steering Cooler" - I was thinking of ditching this and running a small PS cooler... what do you think :)

Cheers for the advice

hawker182

Yeah the second on the saxo pump is the return, the low pressure return line. I have retiained the stock p/s cooler (s shaped) literally  took the stock pump out and stuck in the saxo one with the same connectors, just blocking off that smaller outlet hose.

I havnt thought to much about an aftermarket p/s cooler, i think the stock one works well and is ideally located, its also nicely plumbed in and seems an extra \'To Do\' job that i could do without. Would be a nice little upgrade though

whats the pro`s n con`s for this bud? does it make much more room removin the standard one?

hawker182

Pro\'s for me were that i could fit the piping for my FMIC, this is why i did the mod. Once removed there is alot more room, even more if you have the A/C out too. Not much difference in weight, maybe the stock setup coming in a little more but not much. Should also help take the strain of the Eccentric shaft pulley. I have only the Alt and water pump running from this now.

Any idea what the pressure and flow rates for the pump are?
