I want some sort of shift light to tell me to change gear. I can\'t hear the shift buzzer, and the rev counter is unreliable. Could i just with an LED in parallel with the buzzer so that when that goes off, it turns the LED on?

If not, what other good options do i have?

grinder

cant see why you cant do this

find the buzzer thats powered at the redline - and then spike an LED into the back of it

sounds simple - probably isnt though :D :D

I reckon it must be simple. It\'s whats known as the F100 box, and the buzzer is powered for different reasons: key in door, lights left on, low coolant, etc, etc. So the LED will come on when those occur too, but whilst driving, in theory the only time the buzzer should come on is when the redline is hit.

I have a pivot shift light on my dc5 integra, works well was fitted to the car when I bought it but I know they are fairly cheap to buy.Its a small led on top of dash flashes repeatedly at preset revs.

I\'d also be interested in this as my Tacho has a mind of its own! :2Confused

Jim_rx7

Yeah... anyone feel brave enough to give it a go?? The buzz that it makes to change gear is a great idea by mazda! Just with a loud exhaust etc, it\'s hard to hear.

nikp

Well, seeing as though no one has said this is a bad idea, i will give it a shot....at some point. Don\'t know when yet though - and it all depends upon how accesible everything is. Does the F100 box unplug? If so: easy or hard?

Found a few pointers on this over at RX7Club:

QuoteThis is a copy and paste from Robinette\'s site:

Connect the tach wire to the negative wire of one of the two trailing coils. I used the #2 trailing coil (nearest firewall) and tapped into its blue and yellow wire. Set the tach’s cylinder setting to 4. Using this method my shift light would illuminate at two times the setting of the light, it was set for 3000 rpm and the light goes off at 6000 rpm so I set the light for 3600 rpm and now the light goes off at 7200 rpm.

I know that you can also tap into the tach signal from the Diagnostics connector, but I don\'t know which terminal to tap into.

Quotelook at the diagnostic connector. There is a pin (21 or 24? please check manual) that is labeled as "IGL-". I use this to determine rpm for a rpm activated switch

QuoteI wired my shift light to my TP...If i remember it is spliced off a white wire....if no white then it was green

Sorry for the Hijack... I\'ve got a 92 FD (Actually registerd Dec 1st 1991) and I don\'t think I\'ve got the buzzer... Was it fitted to all FDs\' or was it only on cetain models?

F100 box is fairly easy to get to nick mate and there are 3 plugs that unplug from it. Sits above your knees when your in the drivers seat!
I reckon all you\'ll need is a circuit tester and a fewhigh speed passes!:Giggle
