RX Conversion and bits

Ok ,
 
So I did some maths and made some decisions.
 
Having overheated the rotary and done a couple of tips, I needed to figure out the most cost effective way to get the performance and reliability that I wanted.
 
Initially I thought I would simply get the rotary rebuilt, add a v-mount
intercooler, some big injectors, run a little more boost, and aim for over
400bhp........
 
Weighed the car as is, ie with the lighter aftermarket 17" wheels, decat
pipe etc
It weighed in at 1256kg.....With 285bhp (as measured at WGT):
This gave a power to weight ratio of 227bhp per tonne.....
 
We then weighed Tinkers Rx7, (which is based on a "Touring" model, which
allegedly adds 30kg with the sunroof, Bose system etc). He\'s also running
18"wheels, a sizeable ICE install, and big AP frt brakes...Oh, and obviously
a 7.0L LS1 V8 with Tremec 6 speed box, plus his upgraded diff mounts and
subframe mod\'s.
His RX weighed in at 1360kg.....with 558bhp (as measured at Emerald):
This gave a power to weight ratio of 410bhp per tonne.....
 
Doing a bit of extrapolation, I reckoned I needed to make 515bhp with the
rotary to get a similar power to weight ratio!
 
Now trying to be a bit clever, I looked for a cost/power compromise to take me most of the way there........
 
I figure that If I can keep the weight down to around 1300kg, I could do a
V8 install, using a stock 5.7 litre displacement LS with a bumpy cam and
tubular headers and hopefully be in the region of 475bhp.
Giving me a theoretical 365bhp per tonne.....
 
To get the same ratio with the rotary requires 460bhp according to my
rudimentary maths. Hmmmmm, how much is it gonna cost me to get 460bhp out of a rotary, and how reliable will it be?:Hammer
 
So after a little number crunching and some careful research, I\'ve made the decision to LS the thing..:burnout

The more i read up on it, the more the v8 swap sounds tempting...id say go for it!
