Having to take my engine out (long story) can I take the engine and gearbox out as a whole?  Or do I have to split?

Any advice?

Split, but you can take it out whole if you need to have them both out.:Thumbsup!

Jit

you could take it out as a whole but its prolly easier to split tbh

dazsir

Does anyone drop the engine from below?

Spartacus

I would think you would need to take it out with the subframe etc so that would be a pain.

dazsir

Damn worried about splitting a gearbox etc. never done it before only ever removed Supra TT AUTO boxes.

Reminds me of a story I read about Colin Chapman (of Lotus, for you youngns) who when asked about production techniques on the Lotus Elite in 1959 and how the engine was installed. His answer was "We kick it up the *$$*"!!! exhaust pipe!"
Sorry, this hasn\'t got much to do with your question but I\'m at work bored.

I would think it\'s much the same. There are plenty of posts detailing what you need to do.

physical help?!! you dont need that! You know how small I am! I didnt need anyhelp!! The engine hoist does most of the pulling for you!

Cheers for the messages guys, the time frame is a month or so, as we are in the process of moving house and I am having a double garage built.  So I will pull both 7\'s side by side and swap the engines over.....

Basically my black car, was originally an AUTO that has been badly converted to manual, no change in wiring loom, so the ECU was having a panic (Pip\'s words) as the car was trying to find the auto ecu.

Bottom line is I bought another 7 to swap the engine into.  It destroyed a brand new Apexi PFC! Gutted! Been an expensive week!

Quick question....

How much does the engine weigh, without the gearbox attached?

Mine was 179kg or 395 pounds with all ancillaries apart from the down pipe. Or kin heavy!
