hi guys,

i have a few questions that i woud love to get answers to,

Ive heard many people talk about the apexi controling boost Carl swears by it but nobody has explained how exactly. i am sure this is using the solonoids like to stock ecu but how you get it to do this via commander etc.

my car would always (when finally fixed i.e. for a few days) boost to 0.83 then 0.83 or so on both. sometimes spiking higher dependant on load. i was told by a tuner that unless the ecu fuel cuts it safe?

after i fitted a silenced mid pipe and got rid of the cat i think it is spiking. the apexi isnt doing anything about this.

its on base map, it was on a car with twice my power or maybe even 3times and was on a single t88 but Jeff at reworx reset it and set the fans etc and when i got home i plugged it in but it didnt hunt or learn the car really.

i also have a boost controller i can use but i am not at present.

at the moment my car displays up to 0.91 (has been 0.99 before) on the boost gauge which reads from plenum now. the apexi reads 84 something.

this is worrying me as in third injector duty doesnt get very high and normally is only half or so but sometimes in second it hits 96.9!!!

my questions are,

1.What is the exact stock boost;

i have been told countless times its 0.8 bar but on most us websites etc it says 10 psi then 7 then 10psi which is only 0.68 bar!!!

2. how do i set the apexi and what should each setting read in boost (and elsewhere) - if anyone can photogragh or jot down thiers on close to stock car but srock twins & boost i would be greatful.

3. what is the max inj duty i should see ( i thought 80s highest and never 90s)

4. air temp on mine somtimes reads -25 or -15 or even -35 which is bizarre (stock ic atm) sometimes much higher in the positives ie not below 0

5. if i reset the apexi or ask it to relearn will i get rid of my fan control settings.

6. what does anyone have thier Greddy E-01 set to exactly for twins?

any help is greatly appreciated as i dont want it to go pop.

i ask also because sometimes my car seems to boost right up to the 90s but the power doesnt seem that good but most big surges.

thank you!
fduk.

oh and idle seems worse since apexi is on. the idle is a little low but quite and doesnt hunt but somtimes seems shakey. is this because it never learnt properly?

biggest difference is that throttle response is a bit delayed and if i tap the pedal a few times or blip a few times up tp 3 or 4k it cuts out as sometimes the car seems to just catch the needle and make it idle and other times just stalls if i do this. generally idle is very steady and just below 800 most of the time.

Hi Tariq,

Stock boost from the factory with the car completely in stock from runs a pattern of 10psi then 7 during the changeover to twin turbo operation, then 10psi with both turbo\'s running.
If you mod the exhaust then the boost goes up,but the stock ecu,and Apexi if not mapped, does not add more fuel.
By using a power FC ecu you are now using an ecu that can be mapped, this means that boost, and fueling and timing can be changed, whereas the stock ecu cannot be altered.
The Apexi has it\'s boost pattern set at 0.8 for the 1st turbo, and 0.7 for the twin operation from the factory.
If you are running a completely stock car then that is approximately what it will run,but if you have made mods then the boost will be higher, even though the settings are lower, this is when you need to tune the ECU,especially the boost needs to be controlled, mapping works on this, the fueling and timing to keep the engine in safe parameters, whilst making more power than a stock car.
The boost is controlled by solenoids that are under the Plenum, either ECU tries to control the boost using these.Anyone who say\'s that you need an aftermarket boost controller to control boost while on an Apexi in a twin turbo is wrong.
As for duty on the injectors,if you are in the 90\'s for percentage of duty cycle that is ok for short amounts of time,if properly tuned, but this is directly related to the boost,if the boost goes up then more fuel is needed.
The Apexi runs stock cars pretty good, but is a little rich at lower RPM,and tends to be lean at higher rpm.
Idle can be completely altered on the ecu.
Fan control can be adjusted on the Apexi too.

Really the upshot of all this is that if you want to run mods, then get the car tuned properly for best and safest results.:Thumbsup!

thanks carl, i am going to set my boost controller to stop any spikes etc hence why i think it will help but i have more mods to go on before mapping thats all.

will getting the apexi to relearn or reinitialize get rid of the fan settings as this can onl be done via a datalogit.

Hi

I had an Apexi fitted and a modified map (not base) put on by a very knowledgeable guy called “ant” on here.  The map allowed for a de cat (which I now have) and also for an induction kit.

The boost was raised on both turbos by around 5% or so…

My readings are very similar to yours max boost at 0.94 and max injector duty at 92% but that is only as Carl says for a very short time, maybe 2 / 3 seconds…

I have been told does levels are safe…my car runs fantastic with a substantial increase of power.  It probably runs a touch reach as it occasionally back fires (if that what it is called) with unburned fuel.

As Carl says â€" have it mapped â€" better save then sorry..

As you say that map is a little rich at the higher end on full load. It is intentionally rich (only a little, nothing outrageous) in a few cells of the map as a safety factor. It will pop and flame under high load on that map when you decelerate due to the settings. The settings are very similar to what I used to run in my FD and you will find when the exhaust is really hot you will light up the whole road at night ;-)

Hi Ant

Well, did you get another RX?

Re: you will light up the whole road at night ..

I already do to a major approval from passers by - great fun !!!

anyone else help with this?

also another question, what are you guys intake temps? mine tend to sit around -35!! sometimes come up to positives but mostly stuch on -35!

i only noticed this recently as i drove the car slow in traffic on the way home from work car had heated up to full temp and it just sat at -35. is the air temp sensor broken?

Id say the air temp sensor is knackered.  This is more then likely causing your problems!! It is under the plenum so that means you gotta remove the plenum, may as well polish it whilst it\'s off and check the rats nest while your in there.

thought so! i have had the plenum off about 6 times in the last month as i have alot of hassle attempting to get a new one on that i have which is powdercoated in gold.

it has a new air temp sensor so i will give it a go i guess if i dont get the gold one on :(

not a problem really though, can anyone else answer any of my questions?

thanks robbie

have a look maybe tweak the map if thats possible for you on the road. not sure  if you borrow a dyno to do it.

have asked for blitzboys email but ill just get his number off someone when i can but theres only a few of you guys that can map yourselves right?
