Just had a stab at it tonight doing plugs and leads. Did it from above under the bonnet.

Have to raise the strut brace.
Remove the turbo elbow, throttle body and oil filler neck.

Bit of a nightmare compared to a conventional engine.

About half way there. Finish it tomorrow night. Did rotor one leading plug (7EQP) and rotor one trailing plug (9EQP) as well as remove all of the leads and install the Magnecors. Just got to do rotor two\'s plug. Connect everything back together, re-attach all of the components
and away we go with any luck.

Those spark plugs are blighters to get to! Little buggers! lol. No wonder servicing costs so much on these.

Going to do the AST at the same time also. Changing the OE one to a Pettit Racing one with Race cap.

To this stage it took around 2.5 hours. Hard bit out of the way. Should get finished in around 1.5 hours tomorrow night. Fingers crossed. Will keep you updated.

just to go back to your question about the pfc and safety on the base map. It runs richer than the standard ecu and is generally a safer bet on the base map than the standard one, so if you wanna fit it before getting it mapped I wouldn\'t worry too much. You may find it over fuels and pops and bangs a bit but thats the worst that will happen. Make sure you do its learning cycle once installed though.

Yeah i\'ll get the sparks, leads and AST sorted tonight. Make sure all runs OK once back together.

In terms of the PFC. Thanks for that response. I\'ve not had alot of info or advice come my way regarding this. Bit of a dark spot with it.

I\'ll give a go at installing the PFC either tonight or tomorrow then and run base map until it goes to WGT\'s for a mapping session and other work. Got all of the instructions.

In terms of using the base map... i\'ve been advised that it will be OK to run it and drive around in... just be really light footed and don\'t enter positive boost with it until it is properly set-up. Do you think that this is the case?

What damage to the engine could occur by running too rich? And using the PFC base map during positive boost? Any? Would you advise only using it in negative boost?

Also... where is the standard ECU located on a UK spec RX7 FD? Passenger or driver side outer footwell?

Thanks.

well, I can only speak from personal experience, I don\'t wanna say something to you and your engine go pop so I\'d like someone top post after me and verify what I\'m saying.....

If your car is ok on the stock ecu in positive boost, it should be fine with the pfc as the pfc runs richer than the stock ecu. The overfueling won\'t damage your engine, just some unburnt fuel will get into the exhaust and as the exhaust heats up you will get some flames and pops, nothing to worry about. I had a problem with my stock ecu running a bit lean and put the pfc in myself. I had it checked out before I got it mapped by Pip down at the local garage and the a/f was fine. My car had a straight through pipe and an street port so was needing more fuel than your set up.

The only thing is your fuel bill will go up slightly.

ECU is on the passenger footwell, just behind the fender. There is a plastic trim just in front of the door that is easy to remove, that will gove you easy access to the ecu. The stock ecu is bolted into a harness, which you will have to remove, then simply unplug the stock ecu and plug in the pfc and let it do its learning cycle. I used some sticky backed velcro pads to attach it to the car, which held fine permanantly but you may want to use something a bit more sturdy, depending on your driving style ;)

I have been running the base map in the PFC for years, no ill effects so far.  Mind you I have a datalogit and I did correct the cells with negative timing split in the base map from Apexi which seems to have been a mistake on their part.

Other than the odd pop and bang, and thirst for fuel, I have had no issues with it at all, and it has seen plenty of boost :-)

Saying all of that, I plan to get Carl to map it for me this year.
