Hi everyone.

First of, thanks for taking the time to read this thread.

ok, where do i start! my fd hasnt been runing to well for a while so took it to carl haywood to look over and he advised that is was likely the turbos where leaking oil and there was also blowing coming from around the turbos.

I have suceeded in removing the turbos, unfortunately sheared two studs on the turbo pack and had to sacrifice one pipe. Went quite well overall though. I have had rebuild done by jimmys rx7 (twice! within 3 months due to detonation, which isnt actually covered in his re-builds, unlike carl haywood at haywood rotarys) and have been throughly unsatified as the car has never run properly and needed to be re-built after 2 months of driving as an apex seal had gone. I suposadly had a recon turbo pack worth £1000, but after a second rebuild and 7000 miles they are leaking oil and a gasket(secondary turbo to exhaust manifold) has broken causing the blowing(there is alot of carbon build up from exhaust gas around the oil pipe above the gasket). I have also discovered exhaust sealent between the manifold and block before the turbos!!!! When i removed the exhaust manifold chunks of exhaust sealant had broken off, which could potentially have damaged the turbos. There was also liquid sealant on all the other gaskets, except turbo pack to manifold and manifold to block!!! Should these be metal??

i need new or used gaskets between exhaust manifold and the block and turbo pack and manifold. Can anyone recomend someone around surrey or kent who can  check the turbos for any problems?

Thanks for your help,

:yes

Try Clive at Shy auto - top right of the advertisers banners at the head of this page.

Good luck, sounds like you could do with some.

I started with nothing and I have most of it left

Seconded, you seem to have had some very bad luck there I hope everything sorts out well for you friend :cheers

I would recommend going single, you will love the extra power and it simplifies everything underneath the hood.  I don\'t rate the stock twin turbo setup at all compared to a single tub conversion.

You may find you want to replace the twins if they are bust, sod it just go single prob save money in the long run..

1. you ll find that most rebuilders wont cover detonation on their warranties and not just jimmys.

2. your gonna cringe when you see the price of new turbo gaskets! I know I did when i saw them!

If you want someone in West Sussex, Id go to super7autos who are 20 mins south of gatwick....01903810139

If you want someone just to eyeball the turbos and for some advice then Clive\'s your man, he\'s only up the road from you as well.

First of all welcome to MRC,

Not sure if we have met seeing as your local but I am Real sorry that so far your ownership has been what sounds like a disaster !

The main two gaskets between the Turbo manifold and rotor housings should be big metal gaskets and if they are NOT there you should be asking the person who last put the Turbo\'s on the engine why they are not and that you now expect these to be replaced free of charge especially as these are stupid money
You have done well to get the pack off as it\'s a pig of a job but if you need any advise give me a ring on 0795 729 5555
All the best Clive

Just to let you all know the true facts - we rebuiilt this engine free of charge and we would never leave out the manifold to block gaskets.
