Hi all,

So how the hell do you get the bolt that holds the alternator pulley off?

Everything is stripped and off the car and even with shed loads of WD-40 and a 2 ft breaker bar I cannot move the bloody nut. I\'m not sure whether it\'s trashed my alternator either as I had to jam a screwdriver in it to stop it moving. I don\'t weigh enough to be able to stand on it to keep it down :(

Any thoughts?

Used air to get mine off, didn\'t seem too difficult actually (sorry I know that\'s not of any help). Take it to your local garage and see if they\'ll let you use their airgun maybe?

You need an air gun to get the thing off. The trouble with the bar option that i found was that when you come to put it back together the fins bend much easier when you tighten it up and then catch on the casing.

That is the easy bit.

You need to create a puller to get the front cover off the bearing. The manual says warm the casing up with a soldering iron because its an interference fit. A big wooden hammer helps it along. Must be wood not to damage pulley thread.

When you come to put it back together you need a flattened piece of a wire coat hanger to hold the bushes back while you slide the main body back into the rear casing.

I\'ve done it a few times :Giggle

I think I already bent the fins :( But at least I\'m taking it to pieces so can straighten them again. I need to take the pulley off but I\'m having second thoughts about taking it to pieces now. It\'ll just have to look out of place and stay unpolished!

Its easy with the Alt in place on the engine with the Belt on.

If not get a pair of large pipe wrenches/Oil filter wrench and the correct socket and nip down to your local Quik fit and ask nicly if they could undow it with a big air gun :)

I got that exact quote from someone else! :D Except use a pulley to keep it from moving.
