100 miles Only From Full Tank!!!!!

Hiya all,

SH*T, whats going on?
Just registered taxed etc my RX7 and filled her up on Friday, and today empty tank after only 165kilometres!!
I suppose i could understand this if I ran something like the PinkPanther (lovely car, iffy colour by the way) but as far  as I can see this car looks totally standard.It even has standard airbox and backbox.
Ok so I might have a heavy foot, but come-on.
In third on WOT I get full 11/12psi for first turbo, down to 7psi(changeover) then back up to 9psi slowly dropping off to 7psi for beeper.
The only thing I can think of is that I had the BOV hose temporarily disconnected for pssss sound, maybe too much air got in via the unplugged/unfiltered air box hole?
Any ideas would be great as I dont know if I can afford this love affair for too long.

It depends a lot on what sort of driving you are doing. Is it all stop start or motorway? I\'d expect a lot more on motorway driving (hell, the PP got 170 miles off a tank on the m\'way ).

In stop start traffic it can be a lot worse. My old 300ZX TT was like that, 180+miles on mway, and 120miles if round town.:rolleyes:

Seriously though RX\'s are heavy on fuel but 100 miles to a tank ... somthings wrong

You sure its not been converted but still says KM on the trip counter dial?  165 miles from a tank would be acceptable (lol!).

Fuel economy is something I have quickly learnt to like on the S14 im running.  You notice a change from 14mpg to 30mpg!

Yeh I admit it was all about town stop start, but 100miles    ...thats not right.(thats less than you P.Panth)
I dont know where to start checking, any ideas?

ok i did convert the the speedo it now reads in MPH but would that also change the odometer...??

I would think so.  I dont know how it all works, but 165 miles off a tank is believable - thats about 12 mpg and I used to normally average 14 so sounds about right.

The reason i ask is i\'ve had 2 rx\'s the first was £36 to fill up doing around 120miles, the one i have now costs £50 to fill and does around 160-180miles ?

You may have a small petrol tank???

Michal, the speedo chip converts the odo as well as the speedo. The frequency of the pulses through that red and yellow wire is what drives the speedo. The odo integrates this to provide distance.
Mine odo is defintely going up much slower today after chip install this morning. Something not right with the speedo itself though as apparently I was doing 160mph on way back from MOT - the speedo seems fine to about 60 or 70 then just shoots up!

Mine does about 12mpg, around town 100 miles on a full tank wouldnt suprise me, on the motorway i can get around 180 miles

Modding actually increases MPG surpirsingly enough !

I Guesstimated that I was getting 8 MPG.

That was due to letting it sit for 5 Mins to warm up then driving to work through traffic for 30 mins and then 1 minute on the turbo timer cooling down.

Don\'t take it to work much anymore!
