Speed signal - pulse or voltage ?

As the title suggests really, I have a Gen2 - I am interested to know what format the signal from the instrument cluster that feeds the cruise control takes - is it a series of pulses whose frequency relates to speed, or a voltage proportional with speed - anyone know - save me having to measure/scope it.  It\'s the signal on the Green / Red Stripe wire that goes into the cruise control connector.

Pretty sure its a sine wave format Dave that works on frequency.
