Hi there,
Just bought me a lovely FD all is good apart from the rev counter that seems to work intermittantly.  Sometimes it works, sometimes i doesnt do anything at all, and sometimes it \'dances\' all over the show :3Confused .

Has anyone had any experience with anything like this? Is it likely to be easy to sort or cheap(ish)?

Any help appreiciated!

Thanks
Craig

Hiya mate, Had exactly the same problem, found a second hand guage from a very good friend, and its all sorted now! Not too bad to fit, but talk to someone before you start doing it. Ive seen whole instrument clusters thingys go for £140 ish, i think, but if you can find someone who has just the rev guage it should be cheaper

Would it be likely to be a loose connection? Or are you saying its a problem with the actual guage then?

Thanks for the response!

Eddie

I remember someone going through this on the group, from what I can recal they had a fix and found it to be the capacitors on the back of the gauge.

Have a search I am sure it was on her or maybe FDUK.

Cheers

Yeah, remember that thread. thought about looking further into that, but easier just to find a second hand guage and drop it in. took me about 45 mins including swaping the uk and jap faces. worth what it cost me imho

Eddie

I know what you mean I did the same, not very good with solder:)
Think I paid 60 for mine.
I do have a spare but it has no black face on it as it was removed for scanning in to make a custom set of dials.

If you want it make me an offer.

Cheers

I was the same, mine would stick approx 3.5K rpm. I bought a second hand one from Jimmys for about £60-70 and it was sorted.

#7
Il have a bit of a potter around with it when i pick the car up on sat, and if i cant find an easy solution (i.e. loose connection) il get a new one.

How much would you accept for your spare Eddie? When u say theres no black face on it, do you just mean the facia bit with the revs printed on it?

Thanks for all the responses guys! :)

andyroi

the face and needle are easy enough to change onto the new one, just be careful removing the needle, easy to break it! If you need any advice, you know where we are!

croig

Thanks Andy, might well be on here at the weekend as i have never even owned an FD nevermind pulling the dials apart!

...Actually make that after the weekend as il be out playing :D:3gears-rh :driving :cool

andyroi

when you do get round to doing it, give me a call on 07725522043 before you start, its a wierd feeling pulling the dash out for the first time!

croig

Thats much appriciated, cheers Andy!  Probably be within the next couple of weeks!

Eddie

HI mate yes its just the dial face with the numbers on it which is missing.

Say 40 posted? is that Ok for you

Cheers

Hi Eddie, that sounds good! Like i said, i will have a tinker with it when i pick the car up, but if i cant sort it like that i will let you know asap.

So is it cool to have provisional \'dibs\' on that dial untill say sunday?

LeedsLad

if you want mate ive got a rev counter that i was saving for spares if you have no joy. The only problem is i dont think its converted to mph
