My backbox is huge and gives me a headache after about 15 minutes! I want to change it to something quieter like the tiger supplied by shy. Is there any reason I can\'t order the tiger and get a local mechanic to fit it? The car is standard apart from a decat.

I have also just bought an oil extractor to make oil changes easier. I also want to use it to change the coolant. What\'s the best place to put the hose so I can suck out all the old coolant?

Thanks.:Thumbs-up

If you do change the exhaust and you\'ve got a decat already just make sure you don\'t run lean.

Would it be reasonable to assume that changing to a more restrictive exhaust will mean it will run richer? I have the standard ecu at the moment so mapping isn\'t an option.

Fish

There\'s no reason at all for you not to have your local mechanic fit the back box. Just because you buy something from somewhere, doesnt mean they have to fit it for you as well.

Sorry Fish, what I meant was do I have to go to a specialist to change the backbox? I keep reading about taking cars to specialists, I\'m never sure what can be done by a non-specialist! Thanks.

Nah change the back box yourself, as long as you\'ve got the space and some axle stands. Don\'t throw money away!!! You need as much as possible with a rex!!!

If you\'re worried about running lean, keep it off boost until you can get it mapped, if you have an apexi that is.

Yeah do it yourself, then pop down to say TDI on the A13 and get them to do a quick check. They know about RX-7\'s.

Thanks for the advice. So is this a case of loosening a few bolts, sliding the old one off and sliding the new one on? What if the diameters are different? Do I need any special sealants etc? Would prefer to do it myself but I\'m not very experienced!!

Fish

1, Raise the car and locate on axel stands.
2, Undo the bolts to the mid section, then apply a liberal quantity of WD40 on the rubber mounting bungs.
3, With a long screw driver pry these off.
4, Repeat process in reverse for mounting.

If the new exhaust it larger then not really a problem, if it\'s smaller then use some exhaust paste from halfords.

The complete job shouldnt take longer than an hour.
