Those of you reading my wideband thread will have seen I was going to take it to a rolling road place to be looked at.

Well I didnt get there.  I let it warm up, and thought id just watch what the boost gauge does whilst accelerating through thrid.  It went up a bit higher than normal, and then just dropped back down to a little below its normal level.  It kind of did this a couple of times.

Then letting off to slow down for a roundabout the engine just seemed to go all limp, so I bought it back to the office.  It will start, and it runs but the idle is virtually non existant.  It didnt cut out, but it is literally idiling at almost 0 rpm.

Its knackered isnt it? :(

Hey Lee

It doesen\'t sound too good, did you think it was running lean then ?

but however hopefully it is just a popped off hose or something

Dave

J4P RX

I dont know if it was lean.

It was slightly overboosting though and I didnt know if this is ok.  At least I can console myself that if it was that thats done it then it would probably have happened on the rollers anyway.

If it has blown, then this is probably it for me as I dont have the money to rebuild it.

davefrith

I seem to remember your engine being rebuilt by a company

Is it not under warranty at all?

Fingers crossed mate I know how you feel, its probably a hose or something so don\'t worry too much

Try this:

Hold the revs at about 1500 with the throttle.

Watch your boost gauge, if it\'s fluttering rapidly then sorry to say you\'ve thrown at least one tip. If not, then it\'s something else - hurrah! You can but hope......

Hi Max

yep thats exactly what mine has done :(

Dave

You got a rebuild sorted yet Dave, or has the allure of a more unreliable vehicle become too much (TVR) ;)

It would be a shame to see you go!

End of thread Hijack.

Sorry to hear that Dave, makes me glad i had mine rebuilt before it failed completely.

Lee - hope it\'s not a tip *finger crossed*

yes its all sorted I think now :)

will make a decision when I am up and running again as to whether I will keep it, I might yet ! :)

Just gone and tried.

At idle its fluttering about.  At 1500 rpm its still fluttering about.  This is all in the negative section of the boost gauge.

I put it to 3000 rpm, and it doesnt flutter there.

Verdict?

maximtaylor

Sorry :(

Thrown a tip I\'d say :(

Or more likely just part of it, if it\'s ok\'ish at higher revs.

Bugger.

Is it ok for me to drive it home?

Anyone got any sugesstions on how much it would be worth as is if I wanted to sell it?

Lee

davefrith

yep the engine tips seal better at high revs cos there is less time to lose gas etc through the broken tip from the chamber

Sorry mate, mine does the same, boost gauge flutters at low revs but if you increase the revs then it doesen\'t. Diagnosis is a broken tip

First thing to do is get a compression test done, I would imagine one rotor will be crap

or maybe its something else, here hoping :)

Lee
assuming thats whats happened and I hope it hasn\'t
you can drive it but bear in mind (especially if you drive it hard)that you run the risk of chucking bits of the tip into the turbos and face an even bigger bill

Dave

Yeah, fine to drive home mate, just don\'t give it any boost and keep the revs as low as you can to prevent further damage.

I drove mine all the way back from York- South coast last year when mine went.

You can probably take about £2k off its usual value if the engine is blown, I reckon :(
