see my post about my two way diff, your welcome to come for a test drive and see what you think?
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

cheers for pete, ive heard about the knocks/bangs and that doesnt bother me tbh...

antnicuk - read it, doesnt sound all that bad! really need to feel what ur on about when it comes to it trying to kick out at slow speeds.... coz i honestly dont drive my fd hard all the time, just when im on my own, when ive got the gf in the car i drive very sensibly, so i need to feel yours..... where abouts are you situated? only prob is dude i appreciate the offer but im going to pick up a diff on tuesday from dragon and Ive only got till then to decide whether i want 1.5way or 2way.

antnicuk

i would definately go for a 1.5 but thats just my opinion.  The diff i have is only good when you drive hard.  The rest of the time its like having a really savage clutch and makes you look like you cant drive.  When driving slowly around bends the car judders and the inside wheel slips which makes the car twitch.

TBO if you have fairly stock power and use it mainly on the road i would stay with a stock diff they are very good. Just make sure you have good rubber bushes or poly ones to stop the flex which can cause it to break, also make sure you power plant isnt broken.  (the black bar between the gearbox and diff)

We ran our FD Tripple with a stock diff running 440 rwhp on the strip yesterday and it had no problems at all (of course that doesnt mean it wont break when we up the boost).   Personally i think you only need a better diff if you are going to run sticky slick tyres and do hard launches. Not many people seem to break their diff on the circuit, only the drag strip.

These are just my opinions based on having both.  Your girlfriend wont like it!

cheers for all that dude :)

i busted my stock diff pulling off a set of traffic lights... couldve been a number of reasons but i thought if im gonna spend £250 on a stock diff... then i might as well pay the extra £200 and get a LSD...

i like drifting and messing around, thats my problem, and ive been told an LSD is the best way of acheiving it, and i was offered a ATS lsd for a good price so ive gone for that... it is a 2 way but ill give it a try.. if worst comes to worst and i dont like it then i can always sell it on and buy a 1.5 way, but i thought id go extreme for now as i do have a daily driver as well, the fd is the fun car.... its just not driven hard in this weather, that is what i shouldve said, the wet is a tad dangerous.

Im not running serious power, got 330 at the fly atm and im planning on taking it to the 350 at the wheels and that will be it....

cheers for the advice mate, its given me a good perspective from both sides :)

the girlfriend wont care luckily mate, shes one of those thrill seeker types who would be quite happy to sit in a stripped out fd with a cage and be thrown round the track for a laugh!

Stock diff on an RX7 IS an LSD.

just not a very good one then? i span my wheels when the car was on a ramp and it never indicated it was an LSD

They are good. Suprisingly so for standard fitment. Mine is pushing 500+ fly and I am having huge fun in this wet weather.

it wont luck unless you start putting more power through it, thats what makes it good on the road.  It could have been worn out, lose worn bushes and old oil, all of which could contribute to killing it.  People often neglect putting oil in it.

Just out of interest Tony, what diff will you use

I\'ll start with the standard diff and see how it goes. To be honest, I\'ve raced with open and locking diffs and you just deal with whatever characteristcs they present. I\'m more likely to swap the diff becuase of the need for a shorter final drive than because of problems with the way the locking works.

Not sure what you mean by spinning on the ramp and not indicating it was an LSD? Unless you mean that you had a single wheel spining as the ramp was wet/slippy - that is normal for an LSD unless it has a very agresive locking action. A wheel has to spin to a certain degree to cause the diff to lock. You will usually find that you feel one wheel spinnig up, then as you keep the power going the wheelspin will cause the diff to lock. The diff isn\'t welded together so that both wheels turn all the time.
