Drove my rex at the weekend. On the way home, the alarm went off......as I was driving it!!! :eek

The Alarm is a toad Ai606. It won\'t arm properly, it will go off at random times. Have tried both fobs I have. Haven\'t got round to a new battery, but i can see how a battery would make it behave so oddly - surely a low battery would just mean i have trouble arming/disarming the alarm?

What could be the issue? Is it likely to be a failing unit, and therefore I need a new one installed? Any advice? I\'m planning on taking it to an alarm specialist sometime soon, unless someone can help me out!!

Low battery plays all sorts of havoc with alarms systems.  Worth checking out fully first.

A power hungry alarm/tracker unit was draining my battery within a week.  After going through 2 batteries, I complained to the manufacturer who informed me they knew of the problem and replaced the unit pronto.  This would manifest itself in the alarm going off when it recognised that that power from the battery was too low (the alarm had it\'s own back-up power supply).

The fact that the alarm goes off when you are driving is worrying, perhaps pointing to an installation issue / shorting?

How long has the alarm been installed?

The alarm installer should be able to diagnose.

Had the alarm on for over 3 years now. Not had any problems. I think Iain meant the battery in the fob.

not only was it worrying that it was going off while I was driving, it was also very, very embarrassing!

ope - deffo referring to the car battery!  Different alarms bahave in different ways when they think the battery power is running low.  Could be a good idea to get your alternator\'s output voltage checked out...

ah, ok. Coolio, will check that out. I hope it\'s not the battery at any rate - cost a lot that did!

Seems to be charging fine. 14.2 volts at idle. 13.6 with every conceivable eletrical system switched on. Confirmed with voltmeter, and not just pfc. Alarm then proceeded to go off with car switched off, and I couldn\' turn it off with the fob.

Looking like a failure in the alarm.

had an ai606 on my fiesta turbo that went wrong i had to brake the alarm to get it to go off once i ended up putting a screwdriver throught the siren bit in the engine bay.

****ed me off seeing as sextons had just relieved me of £350 for it few months before. I went through the wiring and got my money back in the end.

alarm shdnt activate when driving whatever is wrong its not ok ..doubt low battery wld affect unless it is causing the unit to pick up a signal but doesnt seem likely..alarms are installed so as not to activate when ignition is on for obv reasons..u can replace the battery and see if it still does it

Any water anywhere? I had loads of problems with mine before Christmas, turned out that there was a puddle in the boot shorting out part of the wiring harness :( Fixed that, alarm has been fine since :)
