Hi guys,

Checked the search on this but couldnt find anything.

Left my car at MOT place today, running fine.  Then received a call saying they coulnt check emissions as its hunting like mad.

Popped over and sure enough it jumping from 700rpm to about 2500rpm, just over and over, when its sitting still or driving.  No smoke or anything.  Power FC reedout going beserk too!

Can anyone help as I run out of ticket on the 31st!!!

Car is a \'92 FD with apexi set to base map, filters, backbox.

Do you think the ECU just needs re-setting? Or the std one put back in for the moment?

Before you reset the PFC have a look at the vac pipe that sits just under the passenger side wiper. Mine came off while at Pip\'s and was hunting like crazy when it had been running fine.

Also check for other pipes but then yes I think resetting the PFC is a good idea, you never know the monkeys could have even played with it to see what it did!!!

Or have a look in the settings and go to the rev / idle setting and see what the figures are should be something like:
1270
1270
1300
980
890
890

only trying to remember mine but you get the idea.

Hopefully others more experienced will offer their advice too.
Cheers

As said vac pipe to the map sensor. Though i wouldn\'t of left my motor with them. The guy who tests mine does it on condition I\'m there with him all the time and he gives me access to his gas analyzer so i can alter the settings before the test.

Check TPS ranges via commander/datalogit on PFC,make sure that both readings are in range. If something is out of range or not working it will be highlighted in black.

Hi lads,

Thanks for the quick replys!

Ive had a quick look in the dark, but cant see any boost pipes of.  Is the pipe in question just under the UIM, or am I looking in the wrong area!?

Quick note on the garage too, I really trust them, and I dont think they will have adjusted the PFC or revved the t1ts off her.

Anymore thoughts guys?

Couple of very small, stupid failures to sort as well :-(.

No the map sensor is mounted high up on the rear engine bulkhead. Stand by the N/S/F wheel looking at the engine high up on the right hand side of the engine bay about a foot from the wing. Its a small black box one vac pipe going to it and one cable.

Righty, checked MAP sensor with BIGGER torch, lol.

Its fine tho unfortunately!  So...

To re-set the PFC do I just go to "etc" in the menu and select the bottom option?  This gives a yes or no, and a lot of Japanese jibberish!

ok just to check map sensor is about where my red circle (on paint so crap I know) is on this pic.

Yes I think that is how you reset have you checked the sensors on the PFC though to see if any faults as reseting with a fault will not do anything naturally?

Yeah thats the one guv, says "map" on it believe.

As for the sensors on the PFC, are they checked for faults via the commander menu?  Or is it a physical check of ECU wiring?

Sorry to be a pain!

:rollin does it say Map on it LOL that is funny sorry I didn\'t know!

Yeah the sensors can be found in the PFC menu and I think it is in the settings bit. Faulty sensor will have a black dot all others (hopefully) will have a white dot next to them.
I don\'t know what each sensor title is so best bet is look and post on here which is lit up black. HTH

Reet then, faults on the following sensors:

NTR

PAC

CCN

Any thoughts anyone?

Thats normal chris, the figures on the left are voltages for the sensors, black or white dots on right are solenoids on or off.

Are any of the voltage figures on left highlighted in black????????

D2BBA

Hi fella,

Nope, just the ones on the right hand side.

Mmm, does this mean all should be well?

All should be well mate, VTA1 AND VTA2 are narrow and full ranges of TPS switch, these are in range otherwise they would be highlighted in black. Check all sensors again when car is running, rev engine up and down and check that none of the voltages go black.

Does the car rev ok? does it hesitate?

I have found that hunting idle is normally TPS or an air leak somewhere after the throttle body.TPS switch can cause all sorts of problems when faulty?
