I,ve bought and fitted 3 Saga racing gauges, accurate but very " flashy ". Fitted the boost and oil pressure guages fine, but not sure where to fit the water temp sender. It\'s an inline hose fitting, does it go top or bottom hose ?? Nothing in the fitting instructions . I guess it goes bottom hose as the gauge peaks at 120 degrees C, which can\'t be far off the top hose temp ( 110 C ) yes / no ?
Or does it really matter as long as the temp is normal ?

Many Thanks

Think you need the top hose mate as it\'s going to be reading the engine water temp befor the water is cooled by the rad. so if you put it in the bottom hose you would be in affect reading the Rad Temp!!

Normal running temp should be about 85 - 90 degrees C if I remember corectly??

Just had a look at these gauges & they seem to be better than the deffi units as everything is built in to the gauge & no link box is required!!! Still fairly expensive though.

Top hose is the one to go for as Jono advised.  Here\'s mine, you can see the hose adapter and the sender is underneath.

Thanks Jono

Top hose is fine. I just hestitated as the coolant sticky quotes figures of 110 C for fans etc which is pretty near the end of the scale for this gauge ( 120C ).

The gauges are fine once the " arcade style " self check start up sequence has finished. Well made and very responsive.

oil temp - mine is fitted on under the oil filter on a pedastool - and i get oil pressure from the same place

although i have a FC the stuff i bought was from a FD

hope this helps

and i was wondering about the water temp - mine is in the top hose - would it make a difference putting it in the bottom - you would then be reading the temp as it enters the engine - or are we more worried about the temp as it comes out ( i suppose if you was that bothered you could fit 2 - just a bit overkill !! )

Also, quick hijack ;)

I read somewhere that you can fit the water temp sensor in the throttle body coolant hose. So you\'d get start up temps rather than having to wait for the thermostat to open.

Is there anything bad about doing this? Does the coolant not "flow" through here?

Personaly I would stick to the top hose!!! & as close to the engine as poss as this will give you a better indication of how hot it is inside the engine, rather than how hot your rad is!!

best place is the water pump - its a TRUE indication

but its a lot of hassle ( well in my eyes it is !! )

Yeh, top hose was a doddle. Took off all but the large lower pipe from the airbox and it lifted out the way. Removed the fuse mounting and fitted the insert in about 10 minutes. Took the car for a spirited drive round the Bucks countryside and it hovered around 80 - 85 degress C, so well pleased.

Thanks for the assist
