Sounded strong eh, Messrs Yorke and Alexander!?

Water seals failed at some point recently (probably whilst on the rolling road - 26odd power runs with limited cooling don\'t do a motor many favours (especially not a 58,000mile one ;) ). So the car is going down to Geff\'s soon. I\'m not sure I\'m going to go for a port, as I\'d only then want to up the boost to the level it\'s at now (which would need £500 worth of 1500 secondaries, new fpr and a new fuel rail), and the car really is fast enough at the moment. With a new motor, new midpipe and maybe properly set up WI, I should see 400 fwhp. That is plenty.

I never thought I\'d say that ;)

I think Kevin and I passed you stopped in a lay-by on the way home.  We turned round to help but you had gone so figured you sorted whatever it was out.

Sorry your engine has gone, but at least you were expecting it and it isnt a complete surprise.

Seeing as youve already spent a fortune, and had another fortune planned anyway I think you should port it :D

problem with not porting now is if you decide to do it laterit\'s a major job.  The price of the porting is minorn compared to the rebuild and doesn\'t mean much unless the other mods happen.  If they do then doing the fuelling is a good measure anyway...

does putting in larger injectors need a aftermarket fuel rail?

maximtaylor

Put a electric water pump on your car, maybe?

My water temps maxed out at 82 celsius at CPL the other week :)

Only downside is the car takes about 20 minutes to warm up!

Bad luck, but I guess that a 58k mile engine has done well, with all mods considered :)

Max

What a bummer, doubt if the RR was to blame - all those mods on a tired engine is only going to cause more strain.

Go for the port and use your boost controller so that you can play good rotor.....bad rotor:D  You know it makes sense.

The fueling is always a good idear.

Cheers guys.

Lee/Kevin: thanks for trying to help out - I\'m glad someone saw me. The boost hose from my turbo to the intercooler had popped off (and made a helluva racket in doing so - the noise, combined with the immediate loss of power had me very, very nervous!). Despite being very cold and bitter by that point, I eventually got the problem sorted with my cheapy in car tool kit (came with the car from Japan).

I guess it would be a crime not to port the motor. Even if I can stop myself from upping the boost, the turbo will be working less hard to produce the same power, so intake temps may even drop. I\'ll doubt I\'ll mke much more power though, as injectors were pretty much maxed out on the R/R before. Maybe I should increase fuel pressure?

I suppose I am lucky to have got this far on the stock motor. I even bought the car knowing that a rebuild was on the cards sooner rather than later, but God knows where the money I saved getting an older car has gone! It\'s just a real pig to have the car finally up and running properly on the GT35/40, only then to have to go through the rebuild/running-in/tuning process straight away.

I\'ll get you next time, Yella Fella!

Cheers,

Joel

I think you will have to look at larger injectors and regulator to go with the porting, at the end of the day it will be worth while:cool

I\'m sure if you had not gone pop and sorted your mid pipe my numbers would have been well beaten:mad: without the porting ect.

Me spending money I don\'t have is bad enough, but YOU spending money I don\'t have - Jeez!

I must admit that I need something to stop me spending on this car. Not porting it will stop me spending money on the engine at least (to extract power, anyway), and will free up funds for me to sort the rest of the car. As I said in a different thread, I still have to uprate the rad, get a new strut brace, sort my intercooler piping, re-trim my driver\'s set etc etc. Also, having the engine internals the way Mazda intended them (I know, I know) will be of some comfort...

Also, 320rwhp in a car weighing 1270kg is very quick - as you know all too well, John. I\'m still young and poor and don\'t need the fastest car around. Not spending more money on the engine will allow me to make sure the car handles and stops brilliantly too.

Someone persuade me?

Cheers,

Joel
