Hi ALL!
I M a bit confused now cuz got fd rx7 , 200sx and supra non turbo to consider to buy,i love all about rx7(ok maybe without rebuilds!)but was told that it cost a lot to do a track day or drift with it thats why i asking for advice. What do you think?I know that 200sx is a good driftable car but somehow i would have to pay a lot more for insurance than rx7,supra?
Any opinions?please help
cheers

RX7s are very fast. A LOT faster than both the 200sx and the supra in standard form. They also handle a LOT better than both of them for circuit driving.

Ive run my car on the nurburgring with just an uprated radiator and brakes no problems, so as far as track days go - you need to spend 500 extra +fitting (unless you do yourself, which i did) to get it to a trackable condition. I dont recommend tracking a 7 without a good Rad.

As far as drifting goes, i road drift mine all the time.  As far as proper drifting goes though (Full cirucits etc) then id deffo get an uprated intercooler and ECU if you want to do that.

And yes, your insurance will be more, but itll be worht it.

I really can\'t imagine that you\'d pay less to insure and Rx7 than a supra or especially a 200sx. Trackdays are a great way to completely drain your bank balance! You need a well setup car to begin with ie good brakes, often uprated cooling (certainly on an Rx7), and good tyres. The 200sx is a very good car to do trackdays on a budget as everything is cheaper than on an rx7 or supra. Supras are very heavy so not really a regular track car, you\'d go through tyres and brakes very fast and it would cost £500 for all four tyres. The brakes on the UK edition are better than the Jap ones. The rx7 is a very good track car as it is so light but still very powerful. The brakes are good on even the standard models, the type R\'s have bigger brakes which are very good. You definately need uprated cooling though as its a weak point on the car. Its also worth going for a modded single turbo if you are going to track it regularly, due to easier maintainance.

If you want to learn to drift then don\'t touch a supra or an Rx7. The Rx7 is very good at drifting but you will kill it if you are learning in it, and it is very expensive to fix every few months. It would be much better to get a 200sx or a very cheap drift slag like a BMW so you can thrash it and not worry so much when the engine goes pop or the million other bits that drifting breaks very quickly. Drifting puts a lot of strain on the car and you will always be shelling out for new bits.

maybe a fc (second gen) would be a better idea there a bit cheaper than the fd(3rd gen) from the sound of it unless the 200sx is well tuned up the insurance you got sounds like its for a fc, or is that just me?

I thought a 200sx was a slighty lower insurance group then a 3rd Gen rx7 maybe group 18 or 19 where a rx7 is 20 and so is a supra.

Ive looked on a few drift threads before and i think a few things you would need to consider changing for serious drifiting in a rx7 would be:

1. Handbrake - The handbrakes arent very good in a rx7, but its always best to change for a hydralic for serious drifting anyways.

2.Diff - The rx7 diff is prone to crack or break under too much stress so this would prob need ot be changed.

3. Suspension - Like on most cars the standard suspension would need to be replaced.

The rx7 has near enough the right amount of power to drift where a 200sx could do with a little extra power although they come with a good diff.  Supras arent used very often for drifting cause i think they are just too heavy, alot heavier than a 200sx or rx7.

have a look at //www.driftworks.co.uk some of the guys on there might beable to help although most of them are 200sx mad lol

Dont even ask me bout insurance i m suprised myself i just went to autotrader insurance search typed the data and i just came up i changed from that time a little bit though.price of 200sx is going down and rx7 a little up.???????

You have to be careful about what Rx7 they are giving you a quote for. If you do a search you\'ll find the answers but I think they have it down as a 2.6? Also its most likely to be an import as there are very few Uk ones around.

To me the Biggest thing about drifting an FD would be the heat under the bonnet obviously dependant on the track, but as a lot of drifting is done at high revs and lowish speeds without much air being driven through the Rad so fit a better than stock Rad and a better intercooler and you will have fun for a long time.

The FD with its Torson diff is a very predictable drift car, have fun out there  http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxuk101YYGB%2526i%253D18%252F18%255F6%255F112%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank">http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/18/18_6_112.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0">http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D18%252F18_6_112/image.gif">
