i thought brett got it back at one stage
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

Grizzly

I can confirm this was indeed my car.

However I am writing this statement to distance myself from this vehicle as nearly a year has passed since I owned it and I am concerned that the listing on Ebay is not completely factual.

I sold this car to Retrobate in January 2006 for £1900.
Since the end of August 2006 we had been discussing via email that he may need to sell it in order to finance a new project.  With the sentimental value aspect (to myself & Lynn) in mind, we came to an agreement that I would buy it back for £2000.  Everyone was happy.

In mid November 2006, after a round trip of some 350 miles to collect it (costing £150 insurance and petrol) - We looked over the car and discovered there was brown sludge in the overflow tank and the rubber on the filler cap (top of radiator) was distorted and flimsy.  We agreed to take the car, but expressed alot of concern about what appeared to be oil in the water system and agreed that we would check it out further at the family workshop. We confirmed that if there were a problem we would come to a sensible arrangement.

The following day we tested the car both from cold and when hot, exhaust gases were seen bubbling in the filler neck and my father (TecVet on this forum) confirmed that the damage to the rubber seal was caused by oil contamination.  Sadly this confirmed our worst fears, the engine was in the early stages of water seal failure.

We were completely gutted - knowing that this would mean costly engine rebuild work.  After further discussions with Retrobate he decided to collect the car so that he could have it independently checked and he gave us a full refund.  At this point in time we were still discussing the option of buying the car back at the current price if the problem was fixed or at a reduced price as was.

Since that time I have exchanged PM\'s with Retrobate, these state that he has flushed the coolant and now believes there is no longer/was never a problem and so would not be getting a second opinion!

In my opinion the engine in this car will not last another 2000 miles, and WILL need a rebuild, I am shocked and appalled that this vital information has been omitted from the listing.

I\'m trying to write this without bitterness and I hope it can be viewed as being a fair account of events.  If you decide to bid on this car then please do so armed with the knowledge that costly bills may be around the corner.
Retrobate, if you read this I urge to ameliorate your listing.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

 Kind regards,

 Brett Williams

Whoao-whoao-whoao-whoao-whoao.... this is certainly one side of the story. The other will be told tomorrow as I have neither the time nor the inclination to try and defend myself â€"*especially my honesty and integrity â€" while I\'m a) this pi**ed off, and b) about to go home for the night.

Quite clearly we have a difference of opinion here by Brett and Gareth above ( retrobate) .

It could well be that whilst Brett feels the engine is suspect, Gareth may honestly believe that the engine is still serviceable for the foreseeable future because as he says "there are two sides to a story", indeed he is welcome to "voice" his side just as any other member would be surrounding a disagreement such as the one above.

Even though Brett is a moderator he is entitled to voice his concerns just like any other member of MRC about the sale of this vehicle even if Gareth does not agree with his views, however I would like to point out that Mazdarotary club.com  cannot and will not be held responsible for individuals "personal" opinions that have been stated above.
All the best Clive
