Its leaking water, so I\'m on the hunt for a replacement.  I don\'t even dare phone Mr Mazda up for fear of a heart attack.  I\'ve e-mailed Jimmy\'s to see whether they have one, but does anyone else know of a good source that may have a few 3rd gens for breaking etc......

Any advice would be greatfully received

Cheers

A water pump is one of those items that I would not skimp on. I\'d bite the bullet and go new.

Rather that than risk future problems with another secondhand unit, plus you\'ll get the gasket thrown in, which you\'ll need to buy anyway.

you\'re not wrong.......I\'ve decided that new is the way to go.  Strangely enough, the Mazda part came in a lot cheaper !!!!  Saving over £30 !!  The Mazda dealers in Blackpool and Preston were just not interested, stating that they would have to contact Mazda UK and request a part number, which would take up to a week, then they could not guarantee it will be the correct part.  So I phoned Bolton Mazda, they swiftly said they could have it tomorrow, no silly questions asked !  So a big thumbs up to Lythgoe Mazda in Bolton....its nice to see a helpful dealership when it comes to imports.

Thanks for the advise guys...

I just had a thought that a sticky thread could be put up, with parts numbers of often needed items, prices charged, quality of service and where they were bought from, with respect to mazda dealers (possibly other places if cheaper/better) :)

This would give us all an idea of what dealers are import friendly, how much they charge for a set item and what the exact part number was, so that the desired part can be ordered easily and you\'d know whether you were being ripped off or not.

We could start off with the water pump as i\'m sure alot of people would be interested in the part number of this type of item, how much it was and what dealer it was from :cool

Other things could be, oil filter, fuel filter, the rx8 illuminating gear knob:bandit ;) , OE air filter, engine/diff mounts, rear bushes etc etc etc.....

What do you guys think?

Kind Regards,

Paul:)

Thats a very good idea !  It would save a hell of a lot of bother, and any Mazda dealer should then be able to order the said part.  You may need to post the idea elsewhere on the forum to gauge opinion.  Eventually a full catolog of parts and UK part numbers should be available to users of this forum.  I will ensure i get the part number etc when I pick up the water pump tomorrow.....

Ok Ben i\'ll start up another thread with the afformentioned post:)

I\'ve just had to do my water pump. Paid £100 + del + VAT from Jimmy\'s, and 3 hours fitting time with my friendly local mechanic (Nick at NR Autosport) - £90+VAT. All sorted now. Definitely not something you want to delay doing - I got through 2.5litres of coolant in the 80 miles over 5 days I did before the replacement.

same here Andrew, I was using a lot this week, yet it happened right out of the blue.  It hasn\'t used a drop until this week.  Its the first (and hopefully the last) time I\'ve heard the Add Coolant buzzer sound off.  When it first happens you fear the worst.

Mazda do the pump and gasket for £76, which is cheap in comparison, until that is pip from WGT got in touch and quoted £67 ! But too late as I\'ve purchased mine from Mazda already, but I\'ll bear them in mind for next time (if there is a next time).
