hi guys,

i have a 3rd gen fd with basic mods and standard ecu,

have had various small inssues and have replaced many leaky pipes and couplers.

i have no secong turbo boost whereby the first does achieve over 11psi if the boost controller is set that high but no second turbo boost, i broken check valve and another broken check vale but it has broken th end off of the solonoid - the one closest to the front of the car which i think is the double throttle so maybe irrelevant.

i will replace the other valve to see if i have any joy but i would like the following done but i cant favour any single specialis as i have not dealt with you individually i also have very little money at the moment so i would just like to know who can help with this, perhaps check and replace any solonoid that isnt working (i would need the parts as i really would need to drive home) check other hoses (looks as if most have been replaced at some stage) and i would just like to drive out with second turbo functioning meaning car is working 100% if or when you can, any wise words and most importantly for me at the moment an estimate of the maximum bill would be kindly appreciated.

engine has good compression all else seems fine - no leaks/smoke or unusual behavior.

PLEASE HELP!

i was a bit disheartend after an experience a few weeks ago but i would just like the car working now as it seems like it is the only thing wrong at the moment.

please contact me or i can try and call whoever i can,

i will add some pictures of the nest that i can see without the plenum off if you can offer any advice please help.

if anybody with experience with RX7s can help me or would like to do the work with me or paid etc please contact me, i am just hesitant to touch anyting such as the rats nest without experience.

thank you in advance

Not being funny but you want to do a search, this sort of fault is not unusal on Fd\'s becouse of the way the Turbo\'s have been plumbed in.

There is a few Problems that could cause this, Search for Solanoids, Check valves and boost Problem.

First place to look is the at the black plastic box between the plenum and strut brace on top of the engine where you will find two small pipes, these control the 2nd turbo and have been known many times to be either loose or detached

Or because you have good boost on the 1st turbo the other one to look for would be that the actuator rod for the 2nd turbo has simply fallen off the turbo pack because the circlip has come off
All the best Clive

i have printed off 50+ threads on the same issues from mrc, rx7 club & fduk which have been really helpful i have replaced the lower intercooler pipe with a hard pipe as it had a split, replaced the y pipe coupler with a samco part along with various other bits and i just find myself tearing my hair out as i only have say saturday morning to work on it and i have no garage.

i will continue but i just need a specialist i think to check the rats nest as it looks as though the pipes have been changed so may be worng also the solonoids as i am finding that i have nothing left that i can check myself, it is also my only car. :(

thank you Griz

hi clive, hope you & family are well,

i have replaced the check vale from the pressure chamber & both pipes going from it as they were both brittle and cracked, this helped at first but has not fixed the problem.

i will definately check the rod as that is the one thing that has slipped my mind since i read it last. my car is roughly 2-3inches off the floor so i cant look under so i will need to jack up wich isnt easy also with the weather and only being able to work on it in the dark.  :reallymad

i have tried to read up as much as i can before i have touched anything on my car but i really would love someone to check such things as the boost controller plumbing (greddy E-01) as carl said he believes this may be affectingf it however it has not been checked along with a look under the plenum.

thank you for your comments clive, very frustrated at the moment as i am just not sure if i am missing something very simple due to inexperience.

i will check the rod & replace the broken check valve i have left to replace.

thanks again,

Tharek

On mine it was the big plastic 90 degree elbow coming from the front turbo, there are 2 small pipes coming off this and mine had cracked around there. it wasnt spotted till i got my engine out.

does anyone know jow much it would cost for a full vac hose job and or solonoid testing or replacement?

what the most tricky for me is that i cant afford to pay by the hour and as much i do apprecite the complexity of these cars i cant find it in myself to rush someone as they work on my car. so i am just looking for an idea of maximum bill to get this issue resolved :(

hi guys,

as i said above i think i have broken the end off of the double throttle solonoid so at the moment i have a pipe off the plenum that would normally go to this solonoid that now is hissing away :(

do i need to plug this up?

i know that the double throttle isnt needed but have a broken it in a place that would cause a problem? as my boost problem is a little worse now and sometimes feels as though its choking? is this because on of the the buterfly plates is being held closed?

any help is appreciated

when the double throttle solenoid breaks, it defaults the butterflys open..not shut. You need to plug the pipe coming off the plenum that goes to the solenoid

cheers bro, thought this might be the case. the solonoid was working fine to my knowledge but i broke the nozzle trying to get the check calve off.

the idle is a bit higher too which is annoying because its like 1300+ most of the time which is too much. i will have to adjust it back at some stage
