hi
i know the 96 cars have a 16 bit ecu and more bhp, but how about putting a 93 block into a 96 rex? is it plug and play so to speak?
thanks in advance:cool

can\'t see there bing any major issues with it? give Tim at RX motors or re:worx a call

The engine wiring loom has different connecters on it to the ECU

There are several differences that you need to aware of on a 96 model, firstly as you mention the ECU is 16 bit, the loom itself is very different, and has completely new connector format which will not plug into older or late ecu\'s and visa versa.
The solenoid system is also modified, this is now a complete integrated block, rather than a modular nest of steel, pipes and solenoids, the ignition coil mounting is different, with different length leads, and brackets. (the 96 block has additional bolt mounting on the centre plate, however is not essential)

The 96 version has a slightly modified lower and upper intake manifold, with spiggots re routed, there is also a difference in oil pump, turbo outlet pipes (known as an efini y pipe),  the water pump housing is also slightly different.

There are other subtle changes, but I think that covers most of them :):cheers

chris, u are worrying me now mate, sounds like its not worth the job! has anyone done this? if so how much extra in terms of parts and labour?

why would you want to? the 96 spec with its 16bit ECU and slight upgrades had more power!

right, so that means ill have a 96 car with 93 power if u know what i mean?
just an option as i got 2 rex\'s non-nunners, 93 and 96, also have a 93 engine, would rather get the 96 on the road, but looks like im gonna have to get the 93 onthe road and re-build the 96!

sadgoth

^^^ that would be sensible, then once the 96 is rebuilt you could sell the 93 car if you wanted to recoup the costs

You do need to strip the engines to a bare block and swap everything over from the 96 engine onto the 93 block

it aint worth the hassle - i did something similar with an earlier FC and a later spec engine and it was a severe ball ache. i did get the car running.. however cutting and splicing looms is time consuming and expect a lot of "what wire is this and where does it go!???" dont like the idea of swapping everything over as your bound to lose  / break something and that engine loom is really brittle i wouldnt fancy it.
