I just hooked mine up and I was wondering what anyone else gets for the oil pressure and temp, or what it should be? :3Confused

Frankie

My oil pressure sits at 25psi at idle when warm and rises to above 90psi when pushing it.  My oil temps sit at around 70 degrees c.

edgasket

my oil temp sits around 70 too, maybe 80 or 85 in traffic... but my oil pressure is  between 15 and 65psi. Hmmm...

I\'m worried now.

Frankie

I wouldn\'t worry too much. From memory I think its between 50 - 60 psi at normal revs (around 3k) and only above 90psi at startup and at high revs.

RAW

my normal oil temp is about 60 or less in this weather but i have twin coolers ;) . rises to over 90 in traffic in the summer.

actually my oil pressure has been worrying me lately. my omori gauge is reading fine and changes depending on revs but my factory gauge in the dash keeps dropping really low and sometimes sits on zero when i\'m idling. i\'m guessing it\'s more likely to be a dogy connection since the omori gauge is fine. does anyone know where the factory gauge is connected to the engine?

andysmee

clearly I can\'t tell as accurately as you but on my stock gauge the needle sits near zero at idle and increases when I rev. When it\'s low on oil it tends to jump around a lot more (which is neat as I know I need to top up a little)

I was wondering if an aftermarket gauge would be worthwhile but you don\'t make it sound like it is much cop

RAW

no it\'s definately worth having one-like i say my omori gauge is fine which means at least i haven\'t dumped my oil all over the road! it is much more accurate than the standard one. it just moves a lot more with rev changes because of this.

stock oil pressure sender is known to cock up rich....its hard to find a sendor which is reliable... ive just bought a new one for my rebuild but i dont expect it to last much past the run in period!
sorry i didnt return your text btw...im still negotiating with the other guy....

After market gauges are a must as far as i\'m concernd (water temp & oil press!!)!! if your sat there and you factory unit is sitting on 0...... while you think "Oh it\'s fine, it always sits a 0 at this rpm" it could be your pump has faild which means total distruction of the engine as if you contiue driving!!!!

Just something to consider next time your gauge points to 0!!!!!

couldn\'t agree more-esp oil temp and pressure, and boost.

If your oil pressure is sitting around 0 at idle then most probably your pressure sender in fookerd, its common on rx7\'s.

They are redilly available at mazda or like me you can allways use one off a mx5, i have a few spares lying around.

The pressure sender is located just under the oil filter with 1 wire attached, its always a good idea to give a the contacts a clean as 50% of the time this will cure it.

that\'s interesting-thanks. i think i have a sandwich plate under the filter for my omori gauge-will this make a difference? how do you get to the contact-is it under the filter? i have recently done an oil change so it could well be this.

cheers

the pressure sensor is about 1 and a half inches in diameter and about 2 inch long so its easy to see, just pull the single wire connector off and give the contacts a good clean.
