My passenger side wiper started squeaking last night. It\'s not the blade, but where it actually pivots from. I\'ve just tried taking it off, and can\'t get it off! How on earth do they come off? I have removed the cap, and the nut, and as far as i can see that\'s it. How do i get the whole thing off now?

There\'s an access panel on the firewall that gets access to the motor.  The assembly is basically a set of levers to make the wipers move together.  It\'s a pig to remove!

It\'s likely that water seepage has caused the nylon bush to sieze a little.  It might be possible to repair but replacement is likely to be the only long-term solution...

Ok, but i want to do a short term repair and need to get the wiper arm off. How does it come off?

I had my passenger side wiper arm off last week and it was a right pain. The nut is the only thing holding the arm on, but the arm and thread corrode together. It will come off but you need to break the bonding between the two.
Basically keep wobbling it and twistihg it and it\'ll eventually pop off and smack you in the face. Re-fitting is much easier and less dangerous.

Nick.... This is what happend to mine on the way back from MOT the other day...... First sign of the unit seising up!!! Pull off the plastic section accross the bottom of the screen by removing the screws, then pop off the arms that are in the recess (they are connected by plastic nukle  joints so you will have to give a good tug on the one that connects the 2 mecs together. Then remove the plastic thing with an arrow (push it the direction of the arrow & lift the edge you are pushing against!) to get the other bar off which you will have to pull to remove!!
Undo the two 10mm nuts that hold the unit in & reach in to pull it out.  If your wiper arm is stuck on to the mec, get a hammer and tap the shaft (if you unbolt the unit the wiper will sit on the pannel, & when you tap the shaft it should pop off letting the mec drop off!!)

Unfortunatly they are a seald item so its a new one or one frome someone who is breaking an FD!!

One Favore returned!! ;)

cheers jono, but in this circumstance, i don\'t think mine is the same as yours....fortunately by the sounds of it.

Almost sorted now. Got the wiper arm off using a couple of hard whacks with a hammer to free up the corrosion. Once the wiper arm was off, i turned the wipers on, and no squeak - so it is down to the arm rubbing.

Thanks Jono - I need this info after all! :p Couldn\'t figure out how to get the wiper boxes off the levers.
