Right guys I had a search about the site but couldent find anything on this. Ive bought a basic streight through downpipe for my FD , it is the LHD veriaty that you see on ebat all the time. Obviously it doesent have the kink, bend in it that the RHD pipe would need.

My question as how should I go about modding it so it doesent foul on the steering shaft. Ive got a big hammer but before I try that would like to know how other people have modded there\'s.

Thanks

Niall

Its not realy worth doing, Just buy a Jap Down pipe (Hks/Greddy)

It is the Steering colum that causes the problem, you have to beat a big dent in the Down pipe to make it fit (It can be done but by the Time you have finished you maight as well have bought a 2.5")

another way is to cut off your old pipe just below the steering link and then weld your new pipe to it. I have one in the garage and its pretty good. If you look at the HKS ones they have pretty much done the same apart from the manifold at the engine side is quite beefy.  This will save you a bit of money.

Why the hell would you want to do this?
Modify your car and not pay what it cost to do!

5 replies and only 1 with a sensible answer...
Besides it not being worth doing for the hassel and time..  Ok you p1ss about and p1ss about and you botched up something to work... Do you really think it would make a performance gain or enhance the engine?   Would it be tuned? Would it look good?

A proper downpipe is not a million bucks to buy and you can just pop it on and off as it\'s \'made to fit\' and designed for performance!

Do these \'so called\' people that have done or do these senseless modifications not stop and think sometimes, "hey what a minute, maybe I should just take the hit and do the right thing and avoid the hassel, possible long term problem or even possibly hurt my engine by cutting a stupid corner!"

This is why it is essential to check a car properly when buying one as you may get a bodged disaster!

Don\'t take the post in the wrong way bud..  Just recently the advise on the forum here is dreadfull...

Basically \'my advise\' is do not even bother to even think about doing something like that.
If you want a bigger/better downpipe, please buy yourself the correct one and save your engine and wallet from possible future damage!

"There are bits that are cheap and there are bits that are incorrect."
 That pipe is incorrect!
