had car out yesterday and all was fine until i stopped to re-fuel
jumped back in car drove back to work and got as very strng smell of petrol coming in airvent,
got to work opened bonnet and the smell and eye stingyness got stronger.

so i thin i have a leak in engine bay some where any ideas if theres a pipe that leaks easy or am i having to rip everything out to check it??

ds2000

It could be the main ones, more than likely its the lines that are UNDER the rats nest :(

Grizzly

Don\'t drive it until you get it sorted!!

it may well be your Pulsation damper on your Uper fuel rail, they tend to drop that much fuel out when they Play up.

And if you do need to move it have a Fire Extinguisher handy, Better to be safe than Sorry.

mikeyh

ssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh dont say that ive only just done rats nest lol

anyone got a diagram of where the fuel lines runs??

mikeyh

and so the fun begins lol

Tbh if you think you have a Fuel leak your Best of taking the Upper mainfold back off and follow the pipes from the Fuel filter (between the Gear box and the NS inner wing) all the way round untill you come back to the Return pipe at the inner wing again.

My money is on the Pulsation damper on the Bulkhead end of the lower fuel rail.

But before you start, just check the charcoal canister breater from the Tank is still conected and in good nick. (BTW thats the third Fuel line you will see with the Filter and Return line just follow it and it will take you to the canister)

Grizzly

Hers some thing to get you on the right track.

BTW, on the pic below the Damper is the Green thing in the Center (looks like a UFO ;))

mikeyh

so hows replaced their fpd`s???

and whats involved
read the write ups but still not 100% clear

mikeyh

right managed to start the dreaded fpd, managed to get a look at where it was but from what i can see it doesnt seem that damp or wet,
dont want to go ripping everything out to find that it wasnt that at fault.

cant see anyother damp bits at all but i did get a fuel smell in bay and coming in heater blower.

notice the little things starting to go in car now lol

mikeyh

see this part is it ment o be right through or blocked off??

mines seems solid.

Thing is your Not looking for wet patches, Fuel Evaporates. You are looking for Water marks or very clean bits.

Does it run ok? You have tightened the Upper inlet up havent you... :)

If its that strong can you see any Dripping under the car when it was running?

ds2000

Right, open the diagnostics terminal and ground out the fuel pump, turn the ignition to on and you will here fuel being pushed through the system.  Fingers crossed it will reveal your leak :)

mikeyh

aaa too late for that i just got stuck into it and its all in pieces now lol.

so might just replace the fpd i take it there`s 2 of them one on each rail??

and anyone know of any british suppliers?

also needing 2 injector seals for bottom rail.
had a good look about and everything seems ok.
i only got the smell when i put in v power lol maybe car doesnt like it.

mikeyh

is this the 2 injectors??
the bit with 2 holes in the middle as its the seal for in there i need.
thanks
