Turning Back Mileage

Hi guys what are your thoughts on this?
Saw on the news last night about a company that can turn back the mileage on your car and it is not ilegal. It is ileagal for the owner to then say that the car has only done the miles shown.
My thought is that as our clocks now run in miles not Km would it not be good to have the clocks turned back to show correct mileage.
ie mine has done 92,000 km and so I would show 57,500 miles.
With photos of both I can\'t see a problem and on a personal note I\'m fed up with people sayin wow that\'s done almost 100,000 miles it must be knackered!!!
Cost is about £50 but what do you guys think?

can\'t see why not, but by law you have to declare you have done it, which may put more buyers off further down the line.

Loud? Hell yes! :D

Yeah that is my question really as I wanted to take a photo of current Km and then photo of miles to show calculation done properly do you think it would put buyers off or would they rather see cars actual mileage rather than what the km it was then adding what miles since converted?

Lol, I\'m fairly convinced half the Fd\'s here have another cars clocks in them anyways (hmmm, this has been apart before...), how many low mileage 10+ year old RX7s do people think REALLY exist?? :Talking1

Tbh, no one should judge an FD on its mileage these days; if you know what a good one feels like just drive it and get it looked over to make sure any thing obvious isnt about to fall off. I\'ve seen a couple of pretty shocking \'low mileage\' examples recently...

I agree bud, I\'ve never really got to grips with this mileage lark over here, after all its body miles when you really look at it. My car back home in the shed has over 600,000 km\'s on it but its had 4 engines in that time and its still going strong.........................I just think its a bit of a cop out, like you say if the car is good then it shouldnt really matter.

just my penny\'s worth

but unfortunately it isn\'t just the bodywork that\'s done the miles. The problems are then with electrics and suspension. Those are the bits which have done the miles AND they\'re 14 years old.

But, like you say, the engine will just keep on going*

there isnt many people wo can do it on these cars, most companies cant.  Most backstreet clockers can\'t either.

It can be done but the i was quoted £200 and would of had to have sent my clocks to Scotland, which i wasnt prepared to pay.

ive had a set of clocks apart in the past and managed to view the coding that gives you the milege on the trip and the car. i couldnt find any logical pattern though it was too encrypted. Reading and writing the data is easy enough so i suppose if you read the the correct milege from one set of clocks and copied it you could change it that way.

Let\'s not be so pesimistic :spank , there are low mileage cars out there.

My mates 1981 Honda Civic has less than 30K on it  not an RX-7 but there were people who bought these cars for every now and then use.

Stick with the mileage as it is, who says they will believe a photo as evidence of the original miles?

probably quite a lot,  they are always off the road and are too damn expensive to run as daily drivers!   :spank
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

I agree, mine was garaged for years, only had 30K on it in May (not anymore though)

my friend recently purchased a 205 GTi from frnace that had 19000 miles on it from new - 1991!!!

It is a sight to behold mind you, looks like it has travelled through a time machine and never been on the road

but as you saw its fairly obvious within about 5 sec if a car and its mileage tally

In my brief time when i was trading Jap imports, i was told by reliable sources that a big percentage of cars leaving Japan are clocked, but as 20B says, if they drive well and are well looked after, does it really matter!

i sold a b-plate mkII fiesta 1.1 with 12,000 miles from new last year, it was owned by a doctor and only used for callouts, it was beige with brown interior and like brand new. maybe they should of used an FD and done twice as many callouts per day.

D1 WTF

but in all honest the main reason some would clock a car is to turn the "engine" millage down.  which in all honest is pretty irelivant on FDs because we know if you have no proof of rebuild, then you are gonna have to factot that into the price you pay.
although i supose if you inported a car that had a rebuild done at 45,000 miles with documentations and the car had done another 30,000 but was wound back so the clock said 50,000.  then that would fairly affect whast you are buying etc.
i know you have to factor in bushes and all other bits not just the engine, but still the most expensive part is the engine etc
IF YOU DIDN\'T CARE YOU WOULDN\'T BE LOOKING
