Unfortuanately my exhaust has properly died so i\'ve got a new one on order from wgt ! Im in the middle of removing the original exhaust and im a bit stuck at the thermal reactor. I\'ve got the air pump off and can see the front bolt at the top but not sure how to get to it !

The main question is do i need to take the carb and the intake off to get to the studs in the thermal reactor.

Has anybody got a howto of removing the carb and the intake and getting the thermal reactor off !

Cheers in advance !

Was not much light left. The thing im not sure about is if i need to disturb the intake to get the thing off. Im going to need a special tool for it to actually get to the studs any way ! The shape of the reactor makes it a big headache.

You shouldn\'t need to remove the inlet manifold (though it will give better access to the top set of nuts). You\'ve just got to find all the nuts and it\'s sometimes a real slow process to get them off - ie. 1/5th of a turn at a time sorta thing & lots of WD40! Space is really limited as you obviously know! I spent about 3 hours removing an Elford exhaust manifold and turbo setup!! Just be paitent, put a CD on, and take your time. :)

no you dont need to remove the inlet manifold or carb :)

remove the airpump,
for the top nuts, you can slip a spanner (you need various brands of spanners with different necks/angles and lengths) in at the front of the engine and move the nut a minimal amount at a time takes awhile usually your hand falls asleep first :) and also do the same at the back :)
or you can die grind the top of the thermal reactor inline with the stud to slip in a 3/8 drive socket extension and universal, but you need to get it loosened by the spanner first
the bottom ones are easy :)

Get your tools, knuckle down and get on with it,....:D  there is no easy way to take it off....:3Confused  OR you could take the motor out and work on it to make it easier ?:Talking1

It\'s the joys of old skool as oldone said.

Not really any more difficult than the fd, just all the bolts are really well hidden on the thermal reactor. Got the airpump off and im going to try and get hold of some swivel sockets as said on rx7club.

There are alot of rusty nuts but there only has been a few that have been properly fused and i\'ve had to take the angle grinder to !
