Quote from: dubber91how about oddly mounted rotary lumps? cos they would technically be sideys ;)

Theres nowt wrong with em....Ive just yet to convince era :WaveBye

air dont flow easier downwards to sideways or anything, so why should there be a performance difference???

in fact, due to the vaporised nature of fuel, atomisation in the air stream should improve with a sidey ;)

Here is a photos of SU(??) set up

Looks lovely. The trouble with SU however is the company went bust years ago, getting overhaul parts for their carbs is very very hard. Believe me I have tried.

Burlen Fuel Supplies have rebuild kits on the shelf.

RotorHeid

Able to find it from RoverSDI 2600 (2 SU)

plus i beleive minispares do very good repro rebuild kits...

just such simple carbs. But no accleration pump always seems to make for less oommph..

MikeLMR

yes but you get a surge in fuel when you suddenly open the throttle due to the surge in vacuum before the piston can catch up (I seem to remember being told as much by a mini nut a long while ago)  And what about motorbike carbs ? they are a similar constant depression design and are much newer and more commonly available ? (although small)

yoeddynz

yeah...I\'ve wondered about bike carbs. clean, simple and cheapish but like you say- possibly too small...?

travellinbob

You can get bike carbs on decent hp pintos and the like so why not a rotor. ???  How hp do you want to make, how drivable do you need it to be and then work out the induction I guess?

yoeddynz

just around 500 bhp whilst returning 30mpg at a steady 70mph would be nice.
And no hair dryers in sight please...

Just thought I\'d spark up the ongoing premix/OMP debate with this link to ausrotary.com which discusses the use of an adapted OMP which draws fresh oil from a small separate tank rather than sump oil.

Certainly like the idea of not having to inject sump oil into the chambers (as for normal oil metering pump system) and no need to worry about getting the right fuel/oil ratio each time you fill up (as for the pre-mix option). Just gotta make sure the feeder tank doesn\'t run dry, but it would be easy to fit a low level warning light.

Another advantage of the system is that it enables you to use two different oil types (an advantage of pre-mix over standard OMP) e.g. clean burning 2 stroke oil in the rotor chambers and whatever your preference in the sump, synthetic/mineral....
