He has broken down and the clutch pedal is to the floor.

Where would you expect that it has given way?

Is there an easy fix? In order to get the car home?

Has this happen to anyone?

HELP!!!

MikeLMR

clutch flexible hose split or M/C or slave cylinder leak is probably the most likely culprit. Could of course be a fault with the clutch itself but check hydraulics first.

TwistedHumour

A mate snapped his clutch cable in his mk2 escort - had a similar problem, except you could clearly see it was snapped.

Sorry if this is of no use - im not very mechanical :(

Check the flexible hose, its the one by the ABS stuff that runs vertically down, there prone to spliting, you should be able to lift the pedle back up and possibly engage 2nd to get you home but its a pain.

don\'t forget to clamp the hose and top up the hydraulic fluid as the brake and clutch share reservoirs !!

Hiya

He has spoken to Gary from Rotary Art and he said that its a gear box problem as pipes and fluid is intact.

But on behalf of D1WTF a big thank you for your quick response.

olly-civic

the only way the gearbox would make the pedal stay on the floor is if the gear box and engine have come apart!

Grizzly

Bearing may have come out of the Clutch??

olly-civic

like if the springs were worn badly and the bearing had gone right tru, but still thats a clutch problem not a gear box, if you can start it on a bit of a down hill in 2nd and it goes and you can rev match it in to the other gears i carnt see it being to box

Iwan

check this line on the pic attached.

the line in the "background" where the arrow ands. This is the hose connected to the hard line with security clip.

NO ROTOR, NO MOTOR !

i think it is either one of the hoses, or the fork that joins the clutch.  will get the AA to pick it up tomorrow and take it to WGT as i was going up there on tuesday to get the final remap done.  just looks like i will be getting the train up there to collect my car.
cheers for all the help

This hapened recently on my GT4, clutch pedal went to the floor and I was like Oh schweppes!. Freewheeled right outside a garage. Popped in to ask if there was anything they could do. Came out had a look, pulled the pedal up by hand and said right that\'ll get you home.  :eek Turned out it was my master cylinder! Drove home and when using the clutch it went to the floor again, but just lifted with my foot to get use again. Worth a try / look if you havn\'t tried already!

what i tend to do when things go wrong with my rex is look at in in disgust, tell it how unhappy i am with it, and it has no effect what so ever, keep us posted as to what was up with it:)

yep, that is a common fault with the master cylender, as Sam has pointed out above, just flick the pedal up with your foot and you will be ok to drive and get it replaced asap.

Another thing you can do is get someone inside the car and get them to press the clutch pedal down and you keep an eye on the hose that Iwan pointed out above and watch out for any fluid leak.  It could be burst/split and letting the oil out and not letting the pedle to go back as there won\'t be any prssure in the system.  While you at it its worth replacing that hose with a braided one, not too expesive and will save you the hessle in the near future.

Gary is referring to a broken clutch fork which was a problem that he had on his car a few years ago and I changed it for him.

This is a fairly rare fault that I have only seen in FD\'s with very heavy clutch pressure plates though, the symptom is that the pedal will be very low but will pump up hard where the fork is bent.

Check the following/

Does the pedal flop up and then straight back to the floor with no resistance when operated by hand or as Laeeq says is it just stuck down, if no resistance the pin may have come out of the pedal pivot or the master cylinder has died and the piston is stuck at the end of the cylinder ( you won\'t get a fluid loss).

It also could be that the slave cylinder bolts have come loose and allowed the cylinder to drop back which yet again would result in no fluid loss.

Cheack all of the above then if not I\'m afraid it\'s box out to start looking for a collapsed release bearing or pressure plate.

Hope this helps.
All the best Clive
