I have read up a bit on this now and realise that BHP is a function or torque x rpm. The 230 has a lower gear ratio so more revs per mph and it gets its peak torque at higher revs. Torque = acceleration but torque on the road wheels is also dependent on gear ratios. So although it has lower torque at the lower end, the  higher revs/gear ratio gives better acceleration. And apparently the more BHP the quicker you can move through the rev range while on the road.

Does this make sense? I hope so......

Hey all,

Just wandering if this was possible - Buy a 190 and remap the ECU to the 230, ala mini to mini cooper??

Seems as though they have identical engines just a different map setting. could save maybe £1000-1500 depending on the cost of remapping?

this way you could get the price of the 190 and the power of the 230 (and maybe even a better power/torque curve)! just an idea as i may be missing the point of the thread!

They do not have the same engine, its been covered a fair bit if you look around the section.  There are 2 extra ports in the high power version, plus the 6 speed box.  Have a look and you should find a bit more info.

Fenix2k - no, the low power engine is a 4 port and the high power is a 6 port.  You could squeze more out of the 4 port but it won\'t make as much as the 6 port.

A guy here in Oz has made around 280 flywheel hp with a completely standard 6 port engine, but with a MoTeC engine management system/exhaust on it etc.

.ps R Excite - sorry no one has answered your post.  The gearing in the manual 6 port engine is really perfect - that is why it is so quick.  Once you get it up in the revs it is easy to keep it there.

With the low power engine, it takes longer to get it into the revs because of the gearing in the engine/diff/gearbox combination.  On the auto that I have it is quite frustrating at times waiting for it to get to 5000rpm in 1st, but then it starts to get going nicely.
Thanks,

oh well, i should do a bit more home-work in future :(

cheers for the info tho!
