Hi All,

Need a refresher on dash warning lights (Gen1 Series 3) specifically the 2 centre ones one looks like an autochoke and the other looks like a lamp or headlight washer? someone please put me out of my misery!!! as both are staying after a certain garage had a fiddle during a tune up.

Also any tips or hints on the 3 way headlight relay/fuse unit mounted on the nearside wing

Cheers,

Paul

The headlight washer bottle is under the water bottle on the right, will have to check the other one

what help do you need with the relay is it not working?

The fusable links behind the light can be swapped for the square ones, perfect fit. Do a search on rx7club in rx7 1st gens, there is a post about it. All i did was take the image along and had no real problems getting some.

Plus im not sure if the choke is always automatic, mine doesn\'t jump back in and the bit next to it just adjusts the brightness of the dash lights !

Hi Shaun,

Pictures would be great as I am struggling to find a thread as for the warning lights on the dash, I know where the headlght washer bottle is as I removed it from the car I just need some to confirm exactly what the warning lights are so I can trace them to find out why they are staying on I will try and take a oicture later

Hi Mark,

The relay is working but something is draining the battery in about 40 minutes flat and when I checked the 3 fused relay box on the nearside wing I found a broken wire which I replaced but it hasn\'t solved the problem One of the 3 fuses has a main feed from the battery not sure what the other 2 do yet but the part is worn but I don\'t want to strip it out until I know a bit more about it and get a replacement if necessary

Those fuses are meant to be a absolute pain if you read the posts on rx7 club. Its only about 10quid for the fuses (if that) and it does help alot !

Hi Shaun,

That Link you posted was brilliant and I am certainly going to do it to mine. Off to Halfords for the Fuses

Hi Dave,

Thanks for that not sure where you got the pixs from but they are a help.  Althiugh my car is a series 3 and they appears to be a couple of more lights there than the ones illustrated. I am having the car looked at present by electrician so I will let you all know the outcome.

Cheers

The pictures came from an owners manual for a series 3. It was printed in 1984. I will have to look at the dashboard at the weekend.

btw the choke factory is an automatic one, ie once you pull it out it stays on till the sensor tells its hot enough and disconnects the choke, as long as you have all the factory bits still connected, sensor from memory is in waterpump housing and electiric choke thing is behind the lefthand strut tower

hope helps

not sure if helps but headlights have a seperate switch to put them up without turning lights on, it turns on a light for a few seconds to let you know lights are up etc

Hello Gents,

Apoligies for the delay in getting back to you all But I have had my head stuck up behind the dash playing unravel the wires!!!

Ok here\'s what I have been up to:

I have replaced the wires with fuses on the relay the hard part here was finding places that sold the right type of fuses!!!

Next I found a burnt out live wire under the dash that had been attached to the main ignition lead via a scotchlock and caused a short by earthing out on the body.

I found out that the short had weakened the alternator so I have replaced it.The remaining dash lights now seem ok and all that I need to do now is sort out the horn for the MOT it looks like a piece is missing as the spring connection that sits behind horn ring at the back of steering wheel as there is a gap between them so when the horn is pushed it doesn\'t make a connection.

Apart from that I am trying to tidy up as much as the wiring as possibe as well as the other nick nacks we all try to do in the winter months and on that note all I can say is thank goodness for pubs!!!

Thank you all again for your help and no doubt as arnie says I\'ll be back!

With regards,

Paul
