The FD that I\'m currently speccing up with RoTechniks already has a speedo converter on but it doesn\'t work properly so the dash is in pieces anyway.

The "standard" conversion (stick a chip onto the back and leave the face alone) doesn\'t appeal as I\'m driving on the continent quite a lot and need a readable kph scale as well. So I guess I could get a replacement speedo face with both...

I was looking into getting a full Mazdaspeed instrument cluster (as it has a more precise water temp gauge as well and I don\'t want the interior of the car to look like I drove it into the gauge display at ye locale speed shoppe) which of course doesn\'t have an MPH scale. Clearly what I\'d want in this particular case is to sully the beautiful cluster with a dodgy overlay - erm, I think not.

I\'m generally quite comfortable with using a km/h speedo even in the UK but I\'m aware that I\'d be breaching C&U regs for the UK registered car (and despite being German I don\'t have an address over there anymore, plus I\'m not deranged enough to attempt and register a modified car over there anyway) so I was wondering if someone (a) knows where to get the little \'number\' stickers that you could get for motorbikes a while back (they go on the glass and not the face themselves) and if (b) someone\'s tried these and got into additional trouble with the law for using them...

Alternatively, does anybody know of a decent supplier for a dual-scale speedo facia to replace the original with?

Have a chat with kev-yorks, he runs a motorbike converter in his cosmo, this allows you to change the ratio at ease.

Or see if you can attempt to find a UK speedo (I have one). It automatically converts to mph and has kph on it too.

I assume that your speedo isn\'t for sale, though?

The one kev has means he doesn\'t have to remove the dash, there is a remote controller that he can change the ratio on the fly !

If your happy with kph on the clock then leave it at that as once your through the SVA your in the clear as the speedo is not part of the UK MOT, take the car in without the clock working and they can only advise you its not working. If you want to go the converter route then there are two that i know of that are set with dill switches and can be mounted in the glove box or someware out of the way takes only minutes to alter the settings once you\'ve calibrated it all up.
Yellow box speedo converter and speedo healer. They both work the same way of the two the speedo healer has a slightly wider range of adjustment.
My set up is converted to miles from kilometers, manual box auto diff plus bigger wheels and calibrated to within .3mph at 100mph took about 20 mins to set it all up including wiring. Both companies have web sites that work out your settings fairly close then just fine tune them with a gps based radar detector with speed readout to get it bang on.

I\'m in a similar situation, it reads in KMPH (which will pass a UK MOT), and don\'t want to change to MPH as it\'d be nice to keep the odo in KM\'s and basically do you really need to know if you\'re going faster than 115mph? By that point you\'re way past the law so IMHO it\'s makes little odds ;)

What I\'d really like is a 120mph face with KMPH inside... Any ideas where I could get one? Otherwise stickers seem to be the way to go.

Oh, and I\' wouldn\'t worry about run in\'s with the police, I just drove from Southampton to Essex in my gf\'s figaro I just picked up with no plates (all legal as it was booked in for a MOT and I\'m insured), but didn\'t see one police car and was amazed I didn\'t get questioned even once *shrug*

Well, the only/main worry I have is that it\'ll give the inswearance another stick to beat me with if something happens.

I guess if you get it in writing from insurance then you butt is covered so to speak... AFAIK there\'s nothing wrong with keeping it in KMPH...

I have a little laminated bit of paper to show the conversion table in my dirvers door pocket... :)
