Can anyone recomend a cheap company who can ship my car from London to Oldham in Manchester.

I did not want to drive the car as it is not registered yet in the UK.
The average price form who I have contacted is about £300.
Any advise welcome.

Cheers

thats not a bad price !!

you can hire a trailor transporter from preston for about £50 for the weekend - but then you need to tow it down and back again

but it may only cost you £100 in the long run - and that way - you dont have to worry about someone else denting your car !!

and nice to see another local person getting an rx - the warrington meets could become quite a large gathering soon !

Eddie

Thanks for the info

Sounds a resonable price then , I managed to get it down to 260 from a guy in southhampton.

should be here early next week

Cheers

You can drive the car in then UK if its not registered afaik, it has to be insured though

No you cant.  I knew you couldnt, but did it anyway thinking I would be ok.

BUSTED!

In the end my car got impounded.  As there was no record with the DVLA the copper was trying to get me on stealing the vehicle, cloning a vehicle, and all sorts of things.

I had to prove it was mine, which is difficult as its not registered to me and I was 200 miles from home with no car as they took it.

It also meant when it was sorted out I got pulled over every 5 mins as they put some rather nasty marks on the computer about me :D

When my car was imported it was given an MOT and I insured it under the chassis number

It had weird Euro plates on, the dealer said I was fine to drive around with it until the registration number was assigned

I doubted it and checked with DVLA and local plod who both gave the same answer that it was fine as long as there was a pending aplication for a UK plate and it was for no longer than 30 days

Weird.

Maybe it was because you had some sort of plate, where as mine literally just failed to exist!  Even on the registration documents its clearly written you cannot drive it though.

Eddie

It clearly states on the DVLA site that any vehilce imported from outside the EU has to transported from the port and you are not allowed to drive or park the vehicle on a public road till your registration has come through, the only exception is to and from an MOT station.

Hold on maybe I can train it down to London and book the car into a MOT station in Oldham (not sure the old bill would like that) and drive it straight to the MOT station from London:).

Then again that many miles with no plates, I will get pulled, not sure the old bill would be that understanding 300 miles to get to an MOT station, bending the rule instead of breaking it.

yeah I had a weird Euro plate on it for some reason, but beleive me I checked it all out and it was fine, I even got pulled 3 days after having it

This is how it works for kit cars

It is legal to drive a car without tax and MOT and an SVA (MAC) certificate if it is insured on the chassis number. BUT it is only legal to drive to and from a pre booked MOT or SVA test.

A car over 10 years old does not require an SVA so once its had an MOT it should be legal to drive it home (e.g. from an MOT test)

I believe it is also legal to drive a car to and from a pre-booked apointment at a garage if it is having remedial work done for an MOT/SVA test (As long as it is insured of course)

Hi,

Dave. I think the plates you had on yours were the ZZ black plates mate. Which are ok with DVLA, it shows the car has gone from one EU state to another.

Problem is you cant have ZZ plates (which also insures your car) if your car has come straight from Japan.
I\'m guessing yours came from Rep of Ireland.

From what I have been told. When cars are picked up from the port. The cops at the exit will not stop you from driving the car out from the port and on to the public road. Its the ones on the road that stop and ask for docs. Usually, the Jap de reg docs will do it but you will have to say you are going to an MOT or something along those line. Insurance is a must, trade plates will be handy.
