Hi people really need some advice.

Have my car book in for a service and a general check over at hurley enginerring tomorrow and have read some bad things about them through this forum.

Is this a mistake and can i trust them if they tell me something is wrong.

Any good or bad reports would be great.

Thanks.

I live in Coventry and have been there once out of curiosity and a chat. They dont seem like bad lads at all. However the feeling I got was that they dont have the in depth knowledge of the FD3 that some other specialists seem to ooze and seemed to lack some understanding of basic good modification practices. If I had to sum it up I would say they give the impression of an \'old school\'  type of garage. Hopefully some others who have actually had work done by them will be along soon withought it turning into a slagfest. Sorry i cant be more helpfull.

I would cancel your appointment until you feel 100% certain you are doing the right thing.

There are lots of top places that will come highly recomended from guys on here. I dont think Hurleys will be one of them.

Good Luck.

TBH i\'d Travel to get some where with a Good Reputation so you feel in safe hands.

Nothing worse than being told or reading bad things about some where you are taking your Pride and Joy too. But hey i\'m just paranoid :)

I personally have no experience of Hurley but bear in mind they have been working on Rotary\'s for a long time.

I really couldn\'t say for sure but if your car is standard/stock then they may be as good as the next company.

I have read bad things about them but surely they must be doing something right to be going as long as they have??

Don\'t. I have had a Hurley engine. Don\'t let them anywhere near your car, Just because they are on your doorstep don\'t. I am only a few minutes drive from them but I drive 130 miles down to RE:WORX and 130 miles back for any work I want done. It\'s your car, it\'s your money, there are other\'s out there but don\'t do Hurley.:eek
I\'M ALWAYS IN THE SH*T IT\'S JUST THE DEPTH THAT MAY VARY.

Rob I have to agree with you there have been many Hurley engined cars out with no problems over the years especially stock cars and I am sure they will agree that if you want a 1000hp monster built they are not really the guys for this.

Yes they have received bad press here on MRC even from me,some perhaps justified, some perhaps not, however I feel that after meeting and dealing with them via the club that this has served to make them much more focused to ensure they serve the Rotary world as they should  and would say give the Guys a break, I have.

If you are going for a service and general check up then i cant really see any problems, i think most of the past issues were work related since you are having no major work done should be ok mate,

I only take my car to someone I trust (before I sold it). From what I have heard (on and off the mrc) thats the last place id go!
The club has to be impartial but peoples personal commants are what you want and that seems to be go else where.
It might be harsh but the amount of bad publicity they have had, there must be serious questions asked of their ability, management, people skills and honesty.

I wouldnt my engine was done by them and is full of school boy errors and corner cutting.  They didnt want to know about putting it right either so best avoid. There are loads of posts of this topic and personally i wouldnt take the risk.

You can find negative posts about any garage on the forums but the great majority of them on here are about hurleys

As I have said, make your own decision knowing that you are 100% certain that you trust them. It is trust after all that is the most important factor in leaving your pride and joy with someone.

Let us know what you do and how you get on either way.

*playing devils advocate* so what all of you guys above are saying is that hurleys shouldnt get the chance to try and rebuild any reputation they previously had?

efiniste

They can rebuild what they like, as long as it\'s not my engine. ;)

Right lets get this back into perspective guys. The question was should he go to Hurleys for a service, no mention of rebuild etc, etc. I know many of you have had issues with Hurleys but as stated previously they need to rebuild some street cred and reputation. Are you honestly saying that they are not up to changing the oil and plugs? This guy is local for them and it seems a bit of a no brainer to put £100 of fuel in to travel to one of the other vendors for something an apprentice could do. If he travelled to WGT do honestly think Pip would be doing the service on the car or one of the less skilled workers leaving Pip free for what requires his skills.
Just to really stir you guys up i am more than happy with the Hurley rebuilt engine thats running in my motor nearly three years since its rebuild and running over 550hp last year.
